This a DEAD issue and I know this but I must re-visit this..... what I don't want is a bunch of bitching from everyone. ;)

Beuerlein is gone and I don't want him back and the move was a necessity* when it was done..... BUT once again we have a veteran journerman QB that is playing well above expectations and "ability" that is leading us to wins.

I know it isn't complex what we have asked him to do this year but it troubles me to see us back in the same situation as in '99.

    * - it was needed to help in the cap situation we were headed for at the time and it was assumed we had the QB we needed to lead us.

sure. That's part of what I didn't like about the move at first. If it works, there's no future in it.

But it shows we can win with a certain type quarterback. Find one of those, sign him, and win. If Peete starts two years and then we hand over to, say, Ragone or Clausen, we're doing good.

it wont start to bother me unless two things happen.....

    A. we resign peete to a outragous extension. just for the fact of not repeating our mistake* with stevie b.

    B. we dont either address the need for a qb of the future in the draft/free agency.........(i know plummer is a free agent, any know any other names right of hand?)

i know fox has said that weinke is still the "man", but if he can't beat out peete in this system with the limited amout of "hard" throws it requires i think his days are numbered

sorry forgot, the mistake* as i was referring to was letting stevie b go under the circumstances we did. not that we shouldn't have cut him or we should have.....who knows what the right decision was?? but it did result in 1-15........

With or without Steve, we wouldn't have faired much better. The organization was funky from top to bottom. JR was stand offish, Seifert acted like he'd rather be somewhere else, the coaching staff were mostly zombies (a product of Seifert's general demeanor), and the players were limp and lifeless.
I still say they were the best 1-15 team EVER!

In the now, we're in pretty good shape. We have the right player at QB, due in part to an OC that knows how to design an offense around the talent he's working with.
I am confident that Weinke is not the future at QB, unless it's as the #2. Fasani? I am not convinced he is either, but he very well could be if he does his homework this year.
No matter who the QB is, as long as Hennings is the puppet master, the game will be tailor fit for that individual.

    The facts still remain

Bline who threw for more yards than Warner, got a huge contract, and we needed the money.

Even if we kept Bline, he likely would not be healthy enough to play for us right now. Yea, right now he's healthy enough to practice, but playing is different. His elbow would never hold up, and I doubt he'll ever regain the strength he had. JMO

He hasn't worked with Hennings offense anyway, so he'd have to learn like everybody else. More than likely not the veteren Henning & Fox would have choose to tutor the young guy anyway.

Besides, Steve didn't have the decision making, touch, or the accuracy, IMO, that Peete has.

Yeah, we've come full circle it seems with vet/rookie/vet, but we're better off, and spending less at QB.

Without cutting Bline, we might still have Lewis backing up too, we wouldn't have Weinke probably, and don't count him for PT this year. Peete's done well and deserves credit, but he ain't no iron man and he's likely to miss some time down the stretch. Weinke is, my guess anyway, got to be better now than when he would have opened week 1, through coaching and tutoring, so I'm not going to worry too much when he comes in. Established defense, established running game, recievers knowing more what their doing, Weinke should be able to do this job. The main thing he has to do really is learn how to read defenses better.

Bline is where he needs to be, Peete is where he needs to be and so are the Panthers.
