Exactly, and based on the expectations those guys had placed upon them coming out of college, their careers have been failures in spite of the fact that Glenn Robinson has averaged 20 points per game, Juawan Howard has averaged 17 points a game and Joe Smith's numbers are pretty much the same as Laettner's.

In comparasion P.J. Brown has averaged 9 points and 8 rebounds a game, and by most counts has had a very good NBA career. Why? Because nobody said coming out of college he'd be the next superstar.

If you look at just the numbers all of the guys listed have had good productive NBA careers. The expectation that they would be better is the only thing that makes them "suck".

Laettner made millions in the NBA, like several tens of millions.

He started on four Final Four teams, likely the only person ever to do so.

He hit two buzzer beaters in the Elite Eight, also likely the only person ever to do so.

He was an NBA All Star in one season.

The list falls quickly after that.

I would trade both my nuts for that career.
[/cue brainless reply that Laettner would take them]

Had to list the college stuff in there to make his NBA career look better?

Didn't he beat out Shaq for player of the year in '92. Also, he was part of the original dream team

And who has had the better NBA career?

And just how did he get picked for that dream team?

I hate Duke but Leattner has had a very solid pro career. he was on an expansion team and still put up good numbers. when he went to the ATL, he was a top PF in the eastern conference, and the Hawks were playing well . Hawks beat Detroit in playoff series that year(actually the one where Grant Hill's ankle trouble started).

hes nothing flashy, and he never dominated in the NBA but he was very solid and productive. definitely better than the average great white hope.

Shaq might have had a better NBA career but Laettner was one of the best and most clutch players in College Basketball history. They usually take the top College Player and put him on the US Team (that's why Okafor was on the 2004 team) and that's how he got on the Dream Team
