Speaking about preseason game back in August -

"The interception that followed may turn out to be one of the most significant plays in the Panthers' history. It has left the Panthers without a franchise qb as they inch closer to Year 2 of the Fox era"

And to think they gave you the column for "Analysis" today. Hell MvM or Piper could find better stuff to right about than that... :D

Hey Pat, just because you play a guy or let a guy play does not crown him 'Franchise QB'....

I think Pat is right. I'm sure it goes a lot deeper than one interception and Weinke sure hasn't made much of a case for himself when he's come in in relief. I think Weinke's gone and possibly Fasani.

I'm thinking Pats comments about it being "one of the most significant plays" is well... balderdash. ;)

Significant plays in franchise history to me... come from significant players or significant "game events" - Heck fire, even oh Steve B had a pretty significant play on that slow but effective QB sneak, I think it was against Green Bay.

Anyway, my guess is we'll probably see all 3 today too. Peete has already admitted he is not looking forward to the weather. Something tells me he'll start looking at that finger during the first offensive series...

Weinke's definately gone. No use having him here, Fox has undermined him in the eyes of the team. He's planted the seed that Weinke and only Weinke was responsible for last year's 1-15 mark. It's taken root and the rest of the team has bought into it.
Must be nice to be one of the rest of the team and not have to take the blame for your sorry ass performance. The question now is who does Fox blame for 3-13 this year? Can't be Weinke now can it? This is just a sorry ass football team with a bunch of gutless players who want no part of taking the blame for their piss poor play when the coach will find a scapegoat for them.

Fasani gets a reprieve by going into NFLE for some game experience. He clearly needs to be developed, and only game experience will get that done.

Their may be some truth in that. Weinke has some skills that might be developed. Unlikely, but he does have, as evidenced by the early season last year, a good arm. I think a lot of us, myself included, were thinking of the first 6 or 7 or so games last year where he played fairly well. But the book is out on him now.

Teams played a lot of zone, and he was able to dink and dunk his way downfield. When teams began to blitz, his weaknesses in making quick reads, locking on guys, and throwing inaccurate balls became apparent. He just never adjusted.

I think Fox saw that in the early season, and with pressure to win from upstairs, he wasn't willing to to blow a fairly easy opening schedule on developing a 31 year old quarterback who might not ever adjust to the blitzes and complex defenes in the NFL.

    further fuel to the fire

I just heard on the Panthers pregame radio show that for today's game Weinke is listed as the emergency third string QB.

I figure that Fasani will be in before halftime.
