I think this is the relevant line in the article:

Coaches are people, too, and they have families and futures to worry about.

Can't blame them for moving on if they feel another situation may be better for them financially and family-wise even if it isn't a promotion. Maybe the Panthers ought to change the way they do business if they really want to keep coaches they like.

hmmmm...After reading what he said it makes me believe the negative aspect even more. It just doesn't make sense. There had to be some sort of philosophical disagreement at least. Had to

Agreed. Magnus has gone into his full blown "defend the head coach at all costs!" mode that we haven't seen since Seifert, so everything you get out of him will be spin.

If the team wants you back and you suddenly decide that you would rather take a lesser position with someone else, that is pretty damning. When you couple it with the fact that so many other people took lateral moves (McCoy's was at least a promotion even if in name-only), it looks really bad. That's not to say that they can't get some good coaches to replace them, but there's no part of "ABANDON SHIP!" that reflects well on the organization.

so in other words two people who had already decided things were doomed, decided that a coach saying "what these press idiots are saying, it's not true" continues to mean they're doomed?

I just don't see the overwhelming concern. We'll go get a good coach and we'll move on. If you can explain what Trgovac actually meant aside from his words, and use it to damn this organization, more power to you. I don't see it and no amount of trying to write off what I'm saying with 8 year old arguments is going to do that. Then again, I also didn't want to fire the head coach before the start of the year for something he said in a press conference.

No. I think there is a level between doomed and things aren't right that I believe to be the case. Just becuase Trgo said that doesn't make me think any different and it just doesn't seem normal. Something isn't right to me and what he said only enforced what I thought.

I haven't really paid any attention to what the press has said about it.

I have no idea what Trgovac's intentions were. He said he needed a fresh start and had no ill will, and I believe that.
If it's a matter of "well, I didn't like it when Fox took control a couple times when Beason was a rookie", or "I'm getting out because Peppers is getting out, so I don't want to have to be in charge of rebuilding", which are the two most likely, I don't find those damning.
If it's a matter of him wanting out of the pressure, which I doubt, then we're better off.

I believe him when he says the assistants didn't leave because of a tiff over contracts. We knew before any of this happened that a lot of guys were getting one year deals, and they were free to explore other options. We don't let them walk without our permission. Two of those coaches we specifically kept from interviewing last year.

As for the press, what Yas said above is directly contradicted by Trgovac saying that it's not the case.

he said his assistants didn't leave over contract disputes? i thought he said he can only speak for himself, and he didn't leave for that reason... or maybe i read it wrong?

He won't speak for anyone else, so he's not saying why others are leaving. But he's saying there's no contract issue there.

Seems strange the way this has played out regardless of the reason(s). After a 12-4 season you don't usually see this kind of turnover for what mostly has been lateral moves. If most of these guys were getting a promotion by moving it would be understandable but this is just odd the way it's gone. I can't believe it's Fox because he seems to engender a lot of friendship and loyalty among players and coaches and a couple of things I've read here and elsewhere suggest he hasn't been happy with any of this. Fox carries personal loyalty to the nth degree since we've all seen how he'll stick with a player long after the rest of us are saying "WTF is that guy doing still on the field?!?". We'll never know I'm sure but the front office seems to be fucking up royally....
