sure they do. They're "the most popular team in the universe." Hank said so.

It was classy. I'm not arguing that. But you're incredibly naive if you don't think part of the Yankees' motivation was to market their brand.

You think I'm naive? You must be living under a rock! The Yankees DO NOT need to market their brand. Have you ever heard of the "YES" network? Do you know that the Yankees are the most storied and well known team worldwide.?

Why do they have a marketing department then?

From a few years ago. "Yankees to strengthen marketing department".

Face it. The VT thing is a win-win situation for them. They're doing a good thing and they benefit imagewise and financially (not that there's anything wrong with it). Denying the latter is beyond naive.

    blah, blah, blah.

so once a team develops a successful brand they just stop marketing themselves and ride the wave in perpetuity? you are naive. and an idiot to boot.

I you think the Yankees can profit from the sale VT hats then you are dumber than Gridfaker. They won't even recoup the cost of their trip to Virgina.

So you never heard of the "YES" network.
Probably never "We are the World." If you did you'd be saying that every musician gave their time for profit.

    Some rock you live under.

I have read that the Yankees were looking to dump the Yes Network. The Yanks are all about money, and marketing their name. You have to market the product no matter what the name. I'm surprised the Yankees didn't pass out Yankee gear to Katrina victims
