besides the fact that now we need a CF I could care less. Good luck to him trying to play CF in Yankee Stadium with that dead arm. Manny is definitely staying now which is good.

As much as I hate seeing a few teams control baseball due to spending like crazy until MLB sets a salary cap on both ends (Top and bottom) how can you gripe. The Yankees are playing withing the rules in place. The smaller market owners are just taking the luxary cap money from the big market teams and maybe spending a little of it. Boston has screwed the pooch in the off season. Watch them go out and over pay Millwood to counter this signing.

Huh? Deepest part of Fenway: 420 feet. Deepest part of Yankee Stadium: 408 feet. The left and right field portions of Fenway are compressed because of the sharp angled walls, but center field is actually one of the larger areas to cover in the American League. But while you're wrong about the ballparks, you're right about Damon's arm being a major question mark for the Yankees. That should continue to be an issue, and will only get worse as he gets older. Moreover, his batting skills are also declining to some degree, so he's going to be very overpaid by the 4th year of that contract.

That said, it's a good move for the Yankees. It gives them a high-quality lead-off hitter who can cover quite a bit of ground in center, but more importantly, it robs their main competitor of a critical piece. Whoever replaces Damon in center for Boston, there's little question that he will create significantly less runs for the Red Sox. A lesser OBP means fewer chances for Ortiz and Manny to do anything, because they won't have as many opportunities with players in scoring position. If he could ever stay healthy, Trot Nixon would be a good option in the #2 hole, but I don't have a clue who they would use as a leadoff hitter now that the Marlins have already traded Pierre to the Cubs.
