Do any of you guys own either or both. Im still living in the past with my ps2. Wondering which is the way of the future. Gotta have the elite for the HDMI connection, add on the HD DVD player for an extra 200 and it seems the PS3 comes out 100 bucks cheaper. But is Blu-Ray or HD DVDs the way of the future? Seems more people have the Xbox360, but then again its been out longer and have a larger game selection.

I wont be making a move till Madden comes out anyway but your visions of the future and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

HDMI is only significant if your HDTV doesn't support 1080p on component connections. Some do, some don't, and many older ones don't support 1080p at all. I wouldn't get the extra HD-DVD drive until this format war is settled, though. It would suck to spend $200 on that only to see the market settle on Blu-Ray two years from now.

Personally I love my 360 as a console. It's the best one I've owned and has an assortment of nice features, but I'm a little frustrated at the lack of quality titles. I've played Gears and Madden to death, so now I'm left waiting for GTA4 and Halo 3. Meanwhile I definitely want a PS3 eventually, but right now Sony is being a dick and not lowering prices when it's obvious that they're charging too much to entice most consumers. Although they insist that no changes are imminent, I have to think that they'll make a decision to lower the cost sometime this year.

Overheating isn't an issue if you get the add on fan. I've had my 360 for over a year now and its worked great with the add on fan. Actually had the addon fan go bad, and had to buy another, but well worth the investment. I had a friend buy the same addon fan for their elite. I think its NYKO that makes it.

As far as the difference goes, at this point I'd go 360. I plan on getting a PS3, but only because I buy all those damned systems. Mainly because only some games come out for individual systems. I enjoy the game play better on the 360, plus if you're buying it for the BluRay or HD-DVD, expect HD-DVD to win that fight. The Porn Industry chose HD-DVD over Blu-Ray. I'll bet you based on that knowledge alone, that HD-DVD wins. It worked for VHS.

It's all about the games. If a system has the games I want to play, then I pick it up. But I usually only make this decision about two years or so after a system launches. I'm not going to be the guy camping out to be the first kid on the block to have a SuperDuperTurboX-Station1440 IV just for the cool factor.

actually, the addon fan has occasionally caused issues itself, due to it being a 3rd party accessory. It can cause power fluctuations that make the 360 throw out false errors because they piggyback the power they use from the 360 power supply. This is why MS tells you to plug the 360 directly into the wall and not through a power strip or surge protector. It has also been proven that all of the 360 versions are at risk of dying, not just launch ones, and even the elite. They haven't made any significant hardware revisions since it came out.

My 360 finally died when I was playing forza 2. While it seemingly is built like shit and can die at random, it has the better games by far. Xbox live is also better than anything around on any other console too. I got a best buy warranty when I bought this one, which lets me swap it in the store for a new one...so I'll just do that.

The ps3 is overpriced and doesn't have anything worth a damn to play right now.
