XBOX 360 Where to get it

The Inquirer (UK) is reporting that some website guys waited in line for 55 hours, only to smash the unit they bought to bits, in front of dozens of horrified geeks who waited but didn't get one.

Watched the video. It was funny up until the end. DId not have a big crowd. If they had balls, they would have done it in the store in front of all the others waiting to pay for thiers.

 

I know. I could have done a much better job than that. Maybe stand out there at 10:00 and pretend you're going to sell it to the high bidder and when you start to get a crowd.... smash. I bet I would get my ass kicked though.

 

this launch is funny because you know that employees and managers are taking them all to put on ebay, since ebay says they sold 40,000 consoles since launch the other day.

As a gaming nerd, I think I can safely say that most of "my kind" would find this comparison absurd for the simple reason that the Dreamcast was considered an incredible console that was arguably superior to the PS2 (and the idea that the PS3 will dominate the 360 from a technical perspective is absurd. It will dominate sales, but they have very similar specs achieved through different architecture). The DC failed primarily because of the poor library of games, but also because of Sega's financial mis-management and limited resources.

 

Yea it is a really bad comparison because the Dreamcast was an excellent system. Maybe they are saying they will fail from marketing and sales standpoint which is really absurd considering it is impossible to compare Microsoft and Sega in financial terms. So yea I don’t get it.

 

Sega was basically bankrupt and went all in when they released the Dreamcast and marketing suffered. They also couldn't include DVD playback since the technology and licensing fees would cost too much to implement at that time. They just didn't have enough to fight off the Sony hype machine, and Sony knew the weaknesses and jumped all over that shit.

MS may be doing nice right now with all their MTV stuff, but Sony is the king of shock and awe. The dreamcast had games that looked better than stuff the ps2 had out years later, but Sony knew how to push the right buttons to wow the public and persuade them to wait just a few more months to buy the ps2 instead of the "inferior" dreamcast.

It doesn't look like sony needs any help with doing that right now because MS is taking care of people not being able to get the 360 themselves. Also a lot of the 360 games look just like enhanced xbox games. Certainly not the graphics jump of last generation. The ps3 can own this shit if they play the cards right.

 

The thing that concerns me about Sony is that they're losing an assload of money in all their non-gaming electronics divisions. They're still making some from music and other divisions, but overall they aren't in nearly the kind of financial shape that Microsoft or even Nintendo (as hard as that is to believe) are in. Given the difficulties with their Cell processor and potential delays on the PS3 release, along with an expected price-point of $500-$600, I'm just not sure Sony can come in and dominate the way they did this last generation. If the gaming industry slumps a bit, as expected, their position becomes even more precarious.
