WRs Philyaw and Davis don't fit

This might be an oversimplification but aren’t Philyaw Davis and Hankton the same types of receivers with equivalent pluses and minuses. If what we still need is a speed guy opposite Moose why do we even bring in possession-type receivers? With Jeffers on PUP and speedy Tolhurst gone Steve Smith and Bright are apparently all we got.

I think Washington has a pretty full stable in the speed department. I have my eye on Darrius Thompson especially. The Skins will have to cut someone eventually, or more likely put someone interesting (and fast) on their practice squad. I think we would be able to swipe a PS player within a certain time frame with a contract offer right?

After seeing shockers Muhammed news we might need Hankton to start with Philyaw or Davis backing him up.
Why am I starting to feel like someone on this board could end up playing WR for the Panthers this year?

I don't think that it's so much a problem of speed right now as it is quality. Byrd is a good posession threat. If we can get something out of Jeffers, supposedly it's still his speed...he just can't cut as well. Smith can handle intermediate and deep routes. So can Bright.

hankton really doesn't enter into it too much. We'll see more of him, but as a receiver he's never been a big asset nor has he been asked to be.

So the end result is that we want bodies, young, able, cheap bodies in the hope that one or two can make a splash, especially as a reserve/situational thing, since I doubt we'll see much of 3 or more receiver sets in the second half.

I agree completely Canteen Boy. Deep speed is missing on this team, especially without Jeffers. I think the Panthers will be looking at WR in next yrs first round of the draft, IF they don't look at QB!

Kelley Washington would look damn spiffy in a Panther uniform.

Magnus, what do you know about Darrius Thompson (Skins)?
Seems to me that they will have to let go of SOMEONE decent by the 53 cut down date. Could one of their rejects or PS guys help us?

Also - Oakland is loaded too. Maybe Marcus Knight (euro) won't catch on there.

I'm not to worried about WRs, as they will only see 15-20 throws a game.

yeah, hopefully we will see a lot of running and some leads.

Thompson? Baylor? Good size, seems to have progressed some, since he pulled down a score. Think he was a 6th or 7th. That's where I'm at, I don't ever recall seeing him.

I'm torn on WR because of the things catch said. That's why I've been sorta toward the idea of DT first and WR second...I know we can get top quality (second tier) in the second at WR. Not at DT or CB as much.

All the same, Williams or Washington would do a lot of good for us.
