I was tempted to pick them in an upset in round one. It's impossible not to overlook them. I betcha they will have Gonzaga down early, maybe even at halftime, before the Zags wake up.

Why does it have to be Gonzaga, dammit. Getting this pick wrong could screw up an entire bracket.

Winthrop has a team full of people who can contribute just no superstars. i like them in a high energy game like the first round of the NCAA's because they don't lose much when they go to their bench. if they can get Gonzaga in a running game I like them.

Unfortunately, I think Gonzaga consciously slows it down and grinds it out with Turiaf who Winthrop has no answer for.

This one is gonna take a lot of thought.

And great coaching. I gotta figure this is the year Marshall leaves, but I think they are still pretty young.

    UVA anyone?

Or Charlotte, after Trace finishes his campaign to get Lutz a new job :thud:

I think Sly is right about the game. That's how I see it working. Winthrop will play with a ton of energy early before Gonzaga smartly slows it down and dictates a methodical half court game.

Gonzaga has this stupid mystique about them that I've never understood. The reason they've been successful in the NCAAs is their style. They are a pure halfcourt team. They get calls and dictate tempo in the NCAAs like you'd expect a halfcourt team to do. They dont run worth a damn, but few teams make them do so. Even Washington couldn't. As long as they rebound and shoot fairly well, they're gonna have success playing that style.

I think he gets bigger offers than Charlotte.

    Really? Any in particular?

I think he'd have a hard time getting an interview at Charlotte, but that's just me.

Who else would think of him? UT?
