I need some information from a New Yorker!

I'll be in NY for 4 nights in November - flying in on the 7th and back on the 11th. I've been a few times before - I spent 6 weeks working in New Jersey a few years ago - but I'll be with a freiend who is going to NY for the first time. For his sake we'll be doing the tourist thing during the days (Liberty Island, Empire State Building, etc).

Anything you can suggest for the evenings/nights? We'll probably have a night in CBGBs because of the history. Any other small clubs you can recommend (neither of us is interested in seeing big name bands in big venues). Preferably in Manhattan?

Is there a "what's on" paper that I can buy so that I can check out .....er, what's on ..... when I get there? Any recommended bars, i.e. with good music and atmosphere?

Finally we're hoping to get to the Giants v Falcons game on the Sunday. I presume it will be the same as virtually every other game I've been to - scalpers selling tickets outside?

Any info will be gratefully accepted. :D

Sorry 'bout that. I haven't been around for a few days.
Let's see..... Gimme an idea about what type of establishment & music you like. That would give me a better idea of where to send ya. I would definitely recommend an evening down on 8th street in the village. Lots of great bars and scary looking people. It's extremely entertaining.
CBGB is a good place to start. Right at the end of Bleeker St on Bowery. I haven't been there in years, but I'm sure it's just as entertaining as ever.
I know it's probably not your style of music, but Les Paul plays every Monday night at the Iridium Jazz Club. Something every music fan should experience at least once, just to say you saw him live.
As for the Giants game.... Have you ever bought tix at Giants Stadium the day of a game?? It's not a pretty sight. Plus, that's a hot ticket this year. Everybody wants to see Vick. If you want I'll try to track down a couple of tix for you. Just give me an idea about where you want to sit or how much you'd like to spend. I have a few friends with season tix, maybe I can pry them away. If not, I know a few ticket brokers.

Hopefully this will help for starters.

Why thank you! I'll do whatever I can to help out a fellow TBRer, or whatever we call ourselves.

Thanks, 89! And you too Lex (as always). :mushy:

As the lady says I like 'hard edgy rock' - good description - metal, hard rock and punk. There must be loads of New York bands of this type playing the clubs, I just need to know where to go to find them. 8th Street and Village sounds ideal. 'Scary people'! I'll have to wear my kilt - commando style. :D

I don't know what you mean by 'not a pretty sight' with respect to game tickets, but I'm sure they must be available, though possibly at a price! Last year I bought tickets outside Lambeau for the Panthers game, and if you can get tickets in Green Bay then it must be possible to do so for the Giants.

I've been to Giants Stadium three times so I know the layout. I'd be happy with 'upper corner' seats, anywhere really. After all I won't be watching the Panthers, and I'll be on vacation, so where I sit isn't too important. And I'll be cheering for the Giants too.

I you could sort a couple of tickets out that would be great, but I don't want you going out of your way for me.

    Grateful for your reply. :xyzthumbs
