Cool. Sounds like this would cover it.

It's NOTHING like an xbox 360. Basically became a Wii Tennis machine for me and a bunch of buddies. And so it was sold. The WiiGames stuff was a total joke, most of it is DIRECT ports from older games, no updated graphics, same horrid controls, etc. MAME on your PC does much better.

On the 360, old games are re-invented and upgraded and generally tons of fun, Rock Band local and online play are crazy good, etc. SOOOO many more interesting games and things to do (it's now my DVD player, NetFlix viewer, picture and video and music player from my PC, etc.).

All I'm saying is, it's fine, but quite limited in appeal. I'd spend money in a 360 again in a heartbeat, I'm not interested in another Wii AT ALL, never missed it.

Bootay has a point, if you're interested in videogames, your money is much better spent towards a 360 (especially now since you can buy a core and get a used HD from MS.)

The motion controls on Wii aren't really that accurate except for the pointing, it kind of feels pretty gimmicky once you have one for awhile. Wii Motion Plus is still pretty far away, and is anyone's guess as to if that will give true 1:1 motion controls. As for now, it's impressive to non-gamers and offers a glimpse of what videogame control might be in the future.

As is, though, it's pretty rudimentary stuff. As a console the 360 is a much better value.

That's right. I forgot the chuck was separate from the wii play.

We've had a wii for over a year and it gets lots of play at our house. 14 year old enjoys GH and Rockband and my 9 year old enjoys the Lego games, Mario Kart and some of the EA sports games.

I agree it's not a hardcore gaming machine but it's a great system for a family with a young kid.

Got all 3 machines. Wii is fun for when visitors stop by. Any other time its XBOX 360. PS3 has basically because a Blu-Ray player only with the occassion PS3 only game.

Somewhere in the past, before this thread, I had gotten the idea that the Xbox would definitely be more of a 'gamer' system than the Wii, and ultimately more of a system I'd enjoy, so the comments here don't surprise me. I'm still not 100% set on the Wii, but think my daughter and wife would enjoy it quite a bit. They'd enjoy the Xbox too though, but they want the Wii.

Yeah kids and gf's/wives change the equation a bit. If you have a craving for hardcore games, the Wii still has a few. Zelda is your quintessential adventure game, Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best platformers in years (and one of the best games overall this gen.) Metroid 3 is a good 1st person shooter/exploring game. Super Mario Kart is a blast as a party racing game. Super Smash Bros Melee is another good party/fighting game.

Also, like Bunky said you can play all the GameCube games on it (you need a GC controller and memory card if you want to save.) There are a ton of good/great games for cheap on GC.

Other consoles are working on motion controllers, Nintendo stumbled on a good thing here. I like my Wii, it's just after having one you realize how it could have been so much better. Wii games for the most part are embarressing graphically, not even as good as GameCube in most instances. Barring Super Mario Galaxy (and maybe Zelda,) there isn't a single Wii game that looks better than FZero GX (on Gamecube) in my opinion.

Well, darn. After today, I'm 50/50 on which system we'll find under the tree on Christmas morning.

    Do you have an HDTV?

If not, the 360 won't look THAT much better than Wii (although it will look better.)

The Wii doesn't look that great on HDTV (unless you have a CRT.) Since the best image is 480p it can look kind of soft on plasma (and looks blocky on a cheap LCD.)
