Doesn't sound like he loves the Bears:

    Ditka unbearable

On his new talk show on Chicago's WMVP, Mike Ditka took some shots at decisions made the Bears.

"I'm not in the bashing business, and I'm not going to start now," Ditka said, meaning, of course, that he was about to start bashing, "but when you trade out of the first round and pick a guy (safety Danieal Manning) you probably could have gotten in the fourth round, you have to start questioning that.
"What is it? Is it the money you have to pay the first-round pick or the fact that you drafted (offensive tackle Marc) Colombo and (running back Cedric) Benson, really two flops, at No. 1? Are you afraid to have another flop? I don't know."

Considering Ditka put his signature on one of the all-time clusterfucks in draft history (marrying Ricky Williams), he is certainly one to talk!

first or second in the north ain't saying much. first in the north < second in the south.
and that's an easy sched they got, imo.

They are the best team in that division. They are the only team without a new coaching staff. I would be suprised to see Minnesota, Detroit, or Green Bay play consistantly well enough to reach nine wins, so it shouldn't be much of an order to repeat.

And it's too early to call Benson a flop. Ditka needs to go play golf.

    Lovie not a top priority . . . yet

Lovie Smith is the lowest paid coach in the NFL at 1.35 mil for ‘06. Two years remaining on his contract and the bears FO has apparently implied that they want to see another season like last year before entertaining the idea of a contract extension for Smith. Anyone have a link to current coaches salaries? I’d be curious to know what the avg. is and what the top paid guys are making.

He gets half of the votes for coach of the year and despite some pretty steep obstacles he gets the Bears into the playoffs his second season. Yeah, it's just one good year but I can think of plenty of coaches who should probably be swapping salaries with Lovie.
