I'd really like to hear why some of you hate him so much.

Like I've said earlier I didn't really follow baseball for a long long time so I don't know a lot about his history.

I did find some articles on him about his mom and what a fantastic relationship they had. And how he came back to Houston to try and take the Astros to the WS and that he was doing it for the fans blah blah blah. He sounds like a pretty likeable guy from what I found and read about him. But I know people hate him. Why?

to me Clemens is the kind of pitcher you hate when he faces your team, but you would love to have him in your teams rotation. VP has a more deep-seeded reason (Clemens time in Boston), but I have always respected Clemens talents. I just hope he sucks in the one start (hopefully) he makes against Chicago.

i dont know what the deal was between him and piazza but what he did to him was just wrong. i wanted to see piazza beat his ass. i remember clemens when he was still in college pitching for the longhorns and you could tell right away that he was gonna be a huge success in the pros.

The way that he handled his last few years in Boston and his exit. His last 3 years or so he just didn't give a crap even when he showe up to spring training, and then he took it to new lows from there - just blantantly mailing in games. Then, he said how he wanted to go to a winner when he obviously just took the cash. And he never threw the fans a bone - never said thanks. He was so mad at the organization (with pretty good reason) that he threw the fans under the bus too. Then it became a fuck me?!? NO! Fuck YOU! situation. I'll dig up a guy by Bill Simmons from espn.com that says it better than I can.

You know I really admire players that spend their whole career with one team. Whether that team ever makes it to the playoffs or SB or WS or whatever. That's the thing I miss about old school pro sports, more players stayed with the same team. But I can't really blame players for wanting to move on if they think they have a shot at the big show. That's a little like saying you should stay with the first employer that ever hired you.

It sounds like he got really frustrated at Boston and not winning the WS add to the fact he was having trouble with the front office or whatever. Yeah he was wrong to stiff the fans, I'm not excusing that. But I certainly don't blame him for leaving for the chance to win the WS and/or more money. I wouldn't blame anyone for that. But I'm sure Red Sox fans feel very different about it.

I read an article earlier about him and his mom that brought me to tears. I've noticed him in interviews after the games during these playoffs and how sports reporters will try and interview him and he always pulls another guy on team to share the limelight with him. I heard him mention the fans several times.

I guess he was a jerk for a few years when he was frustrated. But he seems like a pretty good guy now.

    He's a fraud.

He wanted to play for a winner goes to the Blue Jays who ended up no better than the Red Sox. Then when he goes to Toronto he complains about loyalty but still trashed the guys still on the team, the fans, the front office. Even though he was VERY average his last few years for the Sox and complete garbage one of those years, either 93 or 94.

Then he has two good years and wants to be traded ends up with the fucking Yankees and that's probably the point where if Red Sox fans didn't already hate him they started to. He gets his token championship with the Yankees has a few more good years then retires, then un-retires goes to Houston gets the special treatment of not having to travel on the road in games when he's not pitching. Plus there is also the Piazza incidents which just gives even more reason to hate the guy.
