    And whatcha got?

I was thinking, old school says it sounds better and cd's are too clean. What if it's the speakers that sound too clean. Everything is so crisp now, you don't get that punch and crackle it seems like.

I like quality in speakers because power through crap sounds distorted.
I do like the idea of vinyl, and I have a few pieces, nothing noteworthy. A few select jazz favorites, a few things I liked that were at Goodwill for a quarter. I still basically pump mp3s anyway so it doesn't matter.

I always wanted to get up on stage with an old See & Say and scratch out the cow parts. Never got the chance but I'm going to. That's the shit, especially slipped into something like old hip hop like Grandmaster Flash/F5 or Sugar Hill Gang.

Portishead and some of the other trip hop bands have been recording to vinyl, and then replaying for recording the master, to get that sound. I think that's genius. I mean really fucking smart. They're a sample band anyway, so why not? They even record old school drum machines to it.

It's kinda like how after a few years in the solid-state electronics realm, a lot of guitar people are going back to tube technology to get that sound again, because those imperfections are what it was meant to sound like. And I can respect that, hell, I love the idea. Some people still run solid state because they have to use the head-cabinet setup, but there are pedals you can use to simulate that tube-driven sound. It's a really fucked up way of thinking...digitally replicating an analog mechanical function. But it works and it sounds great. You can distort the hell out of anything but to me it doesn't sound that great unless it has the tone of a tube amp driving it.

I do, 75+ of jazz and assorted rock such as Lou Reid, Rolling Stones. I have all of '60s Miles Davis w/Shorter, Hancock, Williams, Carter, and Trane's stuff, more.
As far as scratching goes I use a guiro; and my fingers when my ass or other parts itch; well, that's not entirely true, I've been known to rub up against a door jamb to scratch my back.

I have over 400 albums. Many in excellent condition. Mostly classic rock and pop late 60s to mid 80s when I started buying cds. I've thought several times about putting the whole collection up on ebay to see what I could get for them. But its hard parting with them.

I don't even have my turntable set up right now so I rarely listen to them. About a year ago I hooked it up and pulled out some favorites - they still sounded really good. I was glad to see the cartridge on the turntable was still in good shape. I have no idea where I would buy a replacement.

As for the albums, the boxes take up lots of storage space. Can't put them in the attic or the heat warps them and too much moisture in the basement - mildews the covers. So maybe I will try to get rid of them...

I've got about 100 culled out from my parents collection of 400+. At the time I didn't have a place of my own to keep them all, dammit.

I need to figure out how to convert them to CD, then I might see what Wossa's got in his collection.

I need to figure out how to convert them to CD,

It is very simple math---and wossa, I had to switch to a SoundDesign turntable to be able to replace my needles. RadioShack sells them or did when I bought 3 about 4 years ago. My whole collection is mint condition and I don't drop the arm on no scratched up stuff.

i've got some, but i may end up single once my other half discovers what i've got.

Off the top of my head, i know i have:
    Shaun Cassidy's first record
    A-Ha
    Wham!

I'll have to look in the storage closet to see what else is collecting dust.

I'm not sure my stereo has any auxillary features I can use to hook up to my PC. And I don't know if my PC has the right equipment either. I've had the PC for almost 5 years.

I got a bunch of albums some direct to disk, mostly jazz some rock. I'm using a technics turntable with a stanton cartridge on it. I have to start beating the bushes for a new cartridge though.

I have two Who albums. The original Tommy with case, book, everything. and a re-release of Tommy.
