Ran into someone discussing that again. I've never been satisfied with the discussion I've heard. Too much about competing mythologies, El, Yahweh, etc. Would love to read some intelligent discussion of the issue.

can you be more specific? are you asking about certain books or do you want a break down of every book?

Well, I'll misspell everything, so please forgive.

I mean all books in all forms - Torah through Deuteronomy. The EJPD theory. There are some popular books that discuss the conflicting Canaanite myths developed by separate kingdoms, and how the Bible was created by scribes and scholars reconciling them. Elohim or Yahweh would be one example of a conflict.

We've tried to have some discussions on the Doucmentary Hypothesis and authorship of OT texts, but like this thread, they never seem to get off the ground. I'd recommend RE Friedman's "Who Wrote The Bible" as a good generalist introduction to the theories and backgrounds that you mention.

That's the book I was referring to. I thumbed through it for 20 minutes at a bookstore but didn't buy it.

Interesting read. I'll go through my shelves at home and see if I can come up with some other recommendations.

Adding to the question of who wrote it, Does anyone get to update it to address modern issues such as smoking?
