Peppers is a much better player than Charles Johnson, and actually he only got $15 million more.

marty would have thrown him an extra 15 mill if he'd pretend to act like a team leader.

I'm certain Jon Beason will be ten times the player based on his new contract.

Peppers has been a better player over time, certainly. And he has that occasional freakish play. Why'd both his, and Chicago's, production drop (his by a fair bit) in sacks on a much better team? Doesn't mean it will, but if we're going on pressure per play doesn't it matter than Peppers' dropped when he left, below these two?

Chicago allowed 375 points in 2009, but only 286 in 2010.

Sure, but Edwards and Mebane are only a year older. Again, my problem is not with re-signing Charles Johnson. My problem is with spending vastly more than any other team offered, and for spending so much that it prevented the team from being able to add new talent. The difference between what Johnson signed for and what I expected him to get would have been enough to pay for Josh Wilson, and given how the market played out, it sure seems like Charles could have come more cheaply than what I envisioned.

The Panthers had enough cap room to not only re-sign CJ and Anderson, but to bring in Mebane, Josh Wilson, and Ray Edwards. How great would the defense look then? Instead Hurney spent tens of millions of dollars more than anyone else was offering for Johnson, and spent another $43 million on a 28 year old running back when the Panthers were already strong at that position.

I assume Rivera has some say in how the team is built.

What if Mabane and Edwards said piss off.

you said $10 million when he signed. You expected him to get $60M/6. He got $72/6. How did you anticipate making $2M into $5M?

I made 6.5 million dollars last year. Spending nine years in Charlotte enabled me to triple my net worth.
