Except the Bible is the most historically documented ancient work there is. I think the next is the Illiad or Odyssey and the Bible puts that to shame. Literally thousands of corroborating manuscripts starting as little as a couple of decades after the death of Christ (with regards to the NT, even earlier with regards to the OT) that support the translation of the Bible. Sure, there are some words out of order here and there but nothing that calls into question any major tenet of the Christian faith.

Technically, the Bible is a compilation of books. Sixty-six of them, in fact. :)

Why? As I noted, my uncle learned Green and Hebrew in the seminary and read them in the original lanaguages himself. Thousands of people have.

Id imagine you could learn several ancient languages. However, if you read the book you will see that what you think are original 'copies' are actually not and that what constitutes an actual gospel or 'book' in the bible is apparently subjective.

It also seems like a very large amount of research and re-training to go do that, if your goal is to simply avoid reading a single book.

Sometimes working at a college actually pays off. :)

We just got 'Misquoting Jesus' in our library, so I went over there on my lunch hour and checked it out today. Imma start it tonight after work. :trophy:

Let us know what you think.

By the first chapter, you already get a pretty good idea that the Bible has wider holes than Paris Hilton.

I can't tell whether anyone is making fun of Kaenash for putting all his eggs in one basket regarding this book, when most religious zealots are the very same way about the Bible.

I do not put my eggs in one basket at all. I read the book and find it well done.

That doesn't neccesarily mean I believe in God or do not believe in God.

I've just started the first chapter (I always read the acknowledgments, foreward, introduction, etc.), but so far the score is:

    The Bible 4, Ehrman 0.

    I shall keep everyone posted.
