Why? Coaching seemed to be the problem in Atlanta. Great recruiting area and a brand new arena.

I think that about the only 2 jobs that could get Stevens away from Butler are Duke and Indiana - and I am not sure that the Hoosiers could pull it off.

    Good lord.
Carolina had the luck that they had Roy, who was already established, waiting in the wings (even though it took two tries). Without him, you saw what happened. It took Dougherty what, one year to nose-dive to 8 wins ?
State was absolutely on a comparable level as UNC and Duke up until the 80's. (national championships/conference championships/etc). The difference after that is Dean + Roy , Coach K for 30 years, vs. the Les/Herb/Sid.
It's arrogant to think UNC and Duke are predestined to be chosen programs. It's ALL coaching. Get the right coach, you win (see, shitty Memphis after getting Calipari). Get the wrong coach, you suck (again, see UCLA/Indiana/Kentucky (pre-Calipari).

Well, let the madness begin. I've seen several different reports that Rick Barnes was in Raleigh today. I hope that's just impatient fans trying to stir up some news.

Wow, it's been a rough 20 yrs for State.

    WWII- 1990 :

N.C. State: two national titles, 16 conference championships; 890-376 (370-225 conference), 25-14 NCAA Tournament. Average season: 20.2-8.5.
UNC: two national titles, 11 conference championships; 952-316 (450-110 conference), 49-20 NCAA Tournament. Average season: 21.6-7.2.
Duke: no national titles, eight conference championships; 859-414 (368-235 conference), 35-11 NCAA Tournament. Average season: 19.5-9.4.

    From 1991-2010:

N.C. State: no championships; 340-292 (120-198 ACC), 6-6 NCAA Tournament. Average season: 17.0-14.6.
UNC: three NCAA championships, six ACC championships; 510-176 (209-109 ACC), 52-14 NCAA Tournament. Average season: 25.5-8.8.
Duke: four NCAA championships, 10 ACC championships; 568-176 (235-83 ACC), 55-13 NCAA Tournament. Average season: 28.4-8.8.

HAVE to get a good coach this time. Go hire Shaka ! (or Miller if he hates AZ)
