The only reason he'd stay at memphis is that memphis (currently) dominates an otherwise cup-cake league, and it's an easy path to the NCAA's.
Personally, I want a coach that wants to compete with the best.

Competing with the best doesn't equal NCAA bids. He's paid nicely at Memphis for such a young head coach. And yes, his path to the NCAAs is much easier at Memphis. Good money + NCAA trips = job security.

    Exactly. Cushy job. CupCake league.
Again, I'd rather have someone who wants to challenge himself further.

I totally disagree with this. Memphis is nowhere near the job that State is.

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Marshall would be a fantastic hire.

Think about from the Memphis coach's perspective. He's paid well already and can easily make the NCAA every year. Wouldn't have to worry about the teams down the road, etc. That equals more money and job security. Go to State and not do so hot and be fired within 3-5 years. I guess he could just take the money and even if he gets fired within 5 years he could laugh all the way to the bank.

Job security doesn't necessarily equal the better job. The risk at State is much higer, but so is the reward.

    What?

These days, especially in coaching, job security is almost nonexistent. If one can find an above average paying gig where it's easy to get to the Dance, one doesn't just walk away. Sure, State may be an "ACC" gig, but that isn't what it used to be unless it's Duke or Chapel Hill.

I suppose if you're just looking for a place to sit back and collect NCAA bids and a paycheck, Memphis might be a pretty good gig. Of course, their fan base is pretty demanding too. And in a league where you only get two bids max, the pressure there probably isn't nearly as low as you seem to think.
