Thanks to all - I reformatted my whole freaking hard drive and got all my damn programs loaded, then I downloaded some new CD burning software. Started burning a CD, then "poof" the damn thing stops and has an error and my computer is locked up. I reboot and NOW my freaking computer can't find my CDROM or my CD burner, and if I drop a CD in the drive before I boot up, I get a blue screen of death. That's it, I'm giving up on burning CD's for now.

BigMark, I'm not buying a new computer right now. Sorry.

Windows 98. It appears to be some sort of IRQ problem, as the blue screen of death I keep getting says something about SCSI and called from VCD at something or other or some kind of shit like that. I think there is some kind of file that a CD burning program uses that is causing some kind of conflict between the 2 drives. I got the computer to find the drives again by removing the PCI bus drive controller from the device manager and rebooting. Tonight I'm going to try just unhooking the CDROM and just use the burner to install software and see if I can get it to use any kind of CD burning program. I'll let you know how it goes. What a pain in the ass.

I fixed the *(^#^(*@^$ thing!!! :D :D :D Hip Hip Hooray!!! I just disconnected the CDROM drive. Now the burner does everything except play DVD's, and I never used the computer for that anyway, I just used my DVD player on my TV. Not sure what was causing the conflict since I never changed any settings, but it's fixed, Just burned 3 CD's in a row with some free software I downloaded. What a relief! :):)

Did you check to see if you had both CD drives set to be 'master'?

Yep - one was master, one was slave. I never switched any of the settings and they worked fine before, they just quit working right. Weird.
