I rarely come to this part of the forum since I do not believe in J. Christ. But I've noticed that some folks here quote scriptures. What's up with that? Do you do that in every day life? When you interact w/ people do you quote the bible?

it's called guidlines to live a disiplined life,, it pays off for most people,,, bible believers are more likely to live law abiding happy lives, make more money and raise better families than those who don't,, reciting scripture keeps them on track and it works for most people

I can vouch that this is not true. Or, not always true. The Bible believers I've known have had the same mixture of catastrophes, family crises, bonehead life choices, emotional problems and personal trials as anyone else. Whether or not their religion makes the problems better depends largely on the person in question.

A wife-beating substance abuser or a pillhead psycho-woman will always be what they are; Baptists refer to the lifelong on-again, off-again cycle of regress-and-repent as "backsliding." Stable, noble-minded, and wise people are who they are regardless of what they call their faith or lack thereof.

I was a mess when I tried to make the Bible "fit" in my life. For me I can confidently say moving on to better, more natural approaches to life was the right move on my part.

I take quotes, etc., as just "verifying" that people are still asking and making the same queries, and most often reaching the same conclusions now, that people have done since the beginning of time. It's sorta a comforting thing.

You can compare it to someone reciting a line from a novel, poem, or movie that speaks to them or moves them on a personal level. It expresses a truth or bit of wisdom they hold dear to their own heart for whatever reason. The Bible is not the only work that people quote for the benefit of themselves or others.

By quoting the Bible, you instantly lose a discussion if the other person doesn't believe in the Bible.

God forbid someone use common sense or their own personal convictions.
