The rest of that series is good, too. Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson have written a bunch of prequels that are surprisingly good.

AWRIGHT, more leads on great books! :woot:

Silver's right about that George R.R. Martin series--it's incredible. More of a fantasy type of thing--alternate world/society--than sci-fi. I would probably not have picked it up, except that I kept seeing other people at the bookstore getting hooked on it, reading it on every break, laughing, or moaning in agony, or exclaiming something as they read.

I'll third it, he's more anti-hero than hero. But i read the first trilogy when i was thirteen (God damn, that was along time ago, twenty years), might have to try and find an old copy again for nostalgias sake.

I wonder what the female readers take on it would be tho, remember that famous chapter?

as much as I love Sci Fi Fanatsy I hated Thomas Covenant.

Right now I am going back through an old Fantasy series by Robert Asprin "The Myth Series" first one is Another Fine Myth. Very light reading - more comedy than anything. Entertaining, good characters and fast reading.

I can understand that, its not everyones cup of tea. But again, i read that in my youth. I do recall it being kinda wordy and long almost for the sake of being long. With a few Simarilion type digressions (is that a word).

If its comedy in the fantasy world your after you must check out some of Terry Pratchetts work, one of the Discworld novels. I can honestly say they're the only books ive read that have made me laugh out loud.

I started on the third series but I couldn't get into it. It lacked something the first two had. I guess you can't beat having a petty selfish leper as the main "hero" made the book.

I read the book and yes, the movie sucked. The miniseries put out by the Scifi channel was actually pretty good and a lot better than the other "Dune"

Ever read Good Omens by Pratchett & Neil Gaiman? That book made me laugh so hard so often that I almost peed my pants. I've re-read it numerous times, & it still makes me laugh out loud. :)

Ive seen it in stores and almost picked it up. But because it was co-written with Gaimen i just picked up another one of Terrys instead. I imagine the humour comes from him as all his are like that.

Ill guess ill give it a try sooner or later now. Is it a Discworld novel or what? Whats it all about?
