I read a lot of different types of stuff--fiction & non-fiction. Can you give me a better idea of what you like? I'm not much into sci-fi, but have read some great stuff. But I'm not that familiar with newer sci-fi--just older stuff.

Anything besides sci-fi that you enjoy? Fantasy? Horror? Anything else?

Check out scifi.com and look for the 'Books' link. I think they review one each week.

Mostly Scifi. I three books off the internet this weekend and read them. The Earthbound series. It was halfway decent, but the main character is a wimp. I guess I'm more sexist than I thought. You would have to read the series to understand.

I hate a wimpy hero too.

If you read mostly sci fi, I guess you've been all through Heinlein. Old stuff, but great.

Have you read The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut? That's old too, but I loved it.

No matter what the genre, I tend to prefer stuff that focuses more on character & sociology that a lot of technological stuff. Gotta have a good plot too, of course. But I'm fascinated at how characters react to things more that exactly what happens.

Just finished a chick-lit novel, & am now re-reading a collection of gothic short stories. And my current nonfiction reading is Odd Girl Out. Current melodrama reading is TBR :)

If you really want a good character and sociology type book then read Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen R. Donaldson.

That's a trilogy of Thomas Covenant with The One Tree and The Power that Preserves. You know there's a 2nd Trilogy, and now a 3rd, right?

That was my favorite series of all time. I liked it better than the Tolkien books.

George R.R. Martin has a great one out, A song of ice and fire series, which starts out with A Game of Thrones, currently up to book 4, this one. Check it out.

James Patterson just came out w/ the second book of the Maximum Ride series: School's Out Forever. The first book was The Angel Experiment. Both are about a "flock" of kids who are human/bird splices. VERY fast paced and action-packed. Great Books!

A great book to read is Dune.
Good political overtones, with man-eating worms !
( and please, dear god, don't even think about that horrible Movie version with Sting in it....god-awful).

I second this one...the first Covenant Trilogy was classic..really a harsh, dark tone to it.
