Don't have the desire or the energy to plow through those.

Are you talking about the Egg & Dunk stories? There are two short stories that I have read and they take maybe an hour to read. Set about a 100 years prior, pretty good and straight forward.

Just found this thread that is about 5 years old.

    Currently reading:
Magic 1-2-3 by Dr. Thomas Phelan (about disciplining kids)
    Old Testament (through Isaiah)

    Plan to read Next:
Thou Shall Prosper by Rabbi Daniel Lapin
    Coach: The A.L. Williams story

    Recently read:
    SSN by Tom Clancy
Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud (really good for setting up proper family relationships)
Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Dr. Meg Meeker (must read especially for any Christian/Jewish Father and especially interesting since it is written by a female Doctor)
The Choice: A Fable of Free Trade and Protectionism by Russell D. Roberts (read this in college in an International Econ. course and I read it about once a year now to keep my econ. mind sharp. Brilliant read about Free Trade/Protectionism without getting too Econ. heavy)
The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanly and William Danko (eye opening)

Re: Song of Ice and Fire series

Unreal, I e-mailed Martin to see if he could give any insight as to the series or the book release dates. Didn't expect any response, but actually got one today. He didn't even mention the series, in fact here is what I got:

I'm still writing DANCE. Any pubdate announcements are premature.

I've given up trying to guess when the books will be released. I write them as fast as I can. After that, it's in the hands of my publishers.

That's it. He hasn't even finished book 5. This after reading at the end of "A Feast for Crows" that the next book would be released in about a year. That was in June 2005. Been 3 years and book 5 still isn't finished. Looks like this might be an unfinished series. Maybe he decided to quit after 6 books, who knows.

Read half of this last night and didn't even realize I had read that much. Very good.

It does seem he stalls between his successful Fire and Ice series books in order to push his other crap that no one wants to read.

Isn't that the truth. He really doesn't seem interested in finishing this series if you ask me. He spends more time writing other things or attending conventions. I sometimes wonder if he has trouble writing more because he's killed off so many characters that what he has left he has trouble finishing the plot out with. I dunno, but I do know that I'm not reading another book in the series until it's finished. I'm 53... this may not happen in my lifetime (or Martin's for that matter) at the rate he's going.

Just like Robert Jordan, why finish something when you can continue to milk it?
