Just read Slapstick by Vonnegut. I was amused, but at the same time, I didn't get it. Can someone explain the point?

I'll never forget the first time I read Salem's Lot. Scared the bejesus out of me! Couldn't stop reading it, & couldn't sleep till I did finish.

The one King novel that scared me the worst, though, was Pet Sematary. Now THAT'S the stuff of my worst nightmares. Bad things happening to my kids & pets. :scared2:

Prolly fucked me up for life . . . .

"The Informant" by Kurt Eichenwald, its about the FBIs investigation into price fixing by the Archer Daniels Midland company in the 1990s. Good so far.

Haven't read that particular Vonnegut novel in ages, but FWIW:

His books are always loaded with black, paradoxical humor--depressing & hopeless in a way, but hilarious & hopeful at the same time. Slapstick isn't one of his best, IMO, but still very worthwhile.

To the best of my recollection, Slapstick's theme is pretty much about the absurdity of people's quest for love combined with their penchant for destroying each other.

    Irony abounds in Vonnegut's stuff.

Have you read any of his others?

Slapstick had the two ugly twins that were genius together and dullards apart. The male became President with his 'Lonely No More' campaign giving everone middle names. Everyone started dying because they were inhaling microscopic Chinese people. You're theme makes sense when I think about it. Thanks.
I've also read Slaughter House 5 and Cat's Cradle; I liked those two much more. It was interesting reading Slapstick and enjoying it but not having a clue WTF was going on.

    Edit
Did you ever see that thread I made for you about one of the books you recommended, 'Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates'?

Slaughterhouse 5 & Cat's Cradle are probably my 2 faves of his works. Breakfast of Champions is great, but it's best to read that after you've read a lot of the earlier ones. I read B of C 1st, & enjoyed it; but had to re-read it after some others to fully get it.

I missed your "Fierce Invalids" thread! Or else I was drunk when I read it & forgot *embarrassed* :) Gonna look for it now tho :D
