Boo's post about the new Stadium the Lions are building have me intrigued... I thought when Ericcson Stadium was the "best state of the art" stadium being built... and while I know it takes more than just a stadium to bring a Super Bowl, I'm wondering what it'd take for us to become a host city.

I thought the main issues with Charlotte putting in a Super Bowl bid were 1) hotel rooms & 2) the weather. With the new Convention Center Hotel being built, I would think all of the NFL VIP's & Media could easily be housed there. Put the NFL Fan Experience next door at the Convention Center is a no-brainer. Plus (assuming Hive #2 gets built), any NFL related concerts could be held at the new Uptown arena. I'm sure we've got enough clubs/hotel ballrooms in the area as well so NFL Players/Agents/Execs-Media Bigwigs could throw their obligatory private party. Plus with the light rail line being built, SOUTHEND would become the 'in' place to go for NFL fans to go check out the stars for the week.

I guess the main issue is the weather; a lot of folks weren't happy with the way the weather went bad in Atlanta; this soured the mood at a lot of NFL parties/golf events that were being held outdoors that week. But then again, I'm sure the weather in Detroit is going to suck so bad, that throwing a golf event is not even in the equation for Super Bowl XL (?) ? ? I wish CLT leaders would seriously put in a bid for the Super Bowl; What's the worse that can happen, the league might say no or agree to hold it later on in the decade :) !!!! I mean, I don't think we could do any worse than Jacksonville (which is having to bring in Cruise Ships that week to have enough Hotel Rooms on hand).

probably still wouldn't be a SuperBowl up there. It's indoor, but the hundred thousand that have to work/watch/be affiliated with the game would still be in a possible spot of extreme weather, which might factor in.

Forget about hotel space long enough to think about what there is around here that anyone would want to come to besides the Super Bowl. After Carowinds (and it would be closed), what would one come to Charlotte for?

They've had them in Tampa and ain't harly shit to do here either. The Mons Venus and YBor City, and the Mons was off limits for the last one.

As long as there is places to socialize, drink, eat & sleep, that's all you need. The circus that comes to town will provide everything else you need.

Shopping yes, but relatively convenient shopping as of now. No races in January.

It would take a miracle, so start wishing. Would love to see it but there is not a whole lot here. You need hotels, entertainment, a lure so to speak. Yes we have a nice stadium but that is it. I just dont ever see it happening!

  9. It'll never happen unless a dome is built. The only reason Atlanta gets them is because they have a dome. Even the last time it was in Atlanta there was snow and ice everywhere...they probably won't get another one for a while. They want the game played in good weather conditions inside and outside. New Orleans gets a lot of them because of their hotels and stuff to do. Same for southern cal, Miami, etc.

The reason Detroit got it is because no other city competed with them for 2005. Downtown Detroit is right across the river from Windsor, Ontario where night life is awesome. They have plenty of hotels and the city is allowing large casinos to built in downtown....so there is plenty to do. When it was awarded to Detoit there were plenty of grumblings about the weather outside.
