I think Kennedy tops Joseph right now. That being said though, Piper is right on here. We are going to get a good player in the top 10 anywhere. I think Andre Johnson is there regardless for us. Roy Williams could go to Texans if Rogers is off the board.

Palmer has risen at just the right time. He'll go really high IMO.
Larry Johnson should go very high too. To me, we need to just maximize the pick. If Rogers, Leftwich, Manning, Williams, Kennedy, Joseph and Palmer are all gone - take Andre Johnson or Larry Johnson or go defense and get EJ Henderson.

We can always look for a develop QB later. I do think I like Larry Johnson a bit more than McGahee ATP. Not a knock on Willis - but Johnson seems to be a bit closer to the whole package IMO. We do win when we run well - so maybe RB is the first choice here.

McGahee is faster, more explosive at the next level, IMO. LJ plays more like a power back, and while he’d work here, I see more upside in Willis.

Kennedy could go higher. He’d work more for the Vikings than Joseph, who already have a one gapper in Hovan. Good call.

Boss Bailey would be more what we are looking for a linebacker, and better value.

Re: Re: What winning means for the draft / future building

he can. He's missed a few tackles, and two of them were fairly important. But those were basically being out of position. He knocked Alstott back on third down, and he laid Couch out on the reverse. I'm content with him. And yes, Meat, he's getting better. Before he'd have gone up for that ball and eventually he'll be to the point where he can diagnose every throw as to what his reaction should be. At that point he's fairly dangerous.

    Now for Meat's stuff.

    Biggest needs, IMO:

    1) QB - Agreed, they can all go for what I care. RF will stay out of being cheap enough.

    2) WR -
    >>Anybody notice Smith was a total non-factor yesterday?

Basically everyone was a non-factor but Moose. Even when they do target Walls they tend to do so only once or twice. I don't buy that bullshit Henning says about not having the personnel to carry out adjustments, because at the very least you have Moose and Walls who can be adequate. Neither will probably ever be what they were, but chances are they can get done the basic things you need to become a more productive O.

    >>He'd be an awesome #3.

I'd rather just start over if possible. Moose, FA, pick, pick. Get a guy in the first and get a guy in the third or fourth, where the value rounds back off and you can get a guy more like Battle or Boldin.

    >>3/4) CB - This one is still big. I think both our guys are good, and if we get another legitimate starter, we'll have great depth.

I'm tempted to see what we can do if we go back into camp with the guys we started the season with - adding back Fair. I have a feeling Wesley and Howard will put up a good fight.

    >>4/3) RB - Dee Brown looked good.
I think Foster is done, but he'll likely stay on the roster. I'm not thrilled about Dee as the feature back, but I'll have to see how he does the next 4 games. He might be a great surprise. That would be BIG.

I'm torn. I think it's probably right to get a tough back in ,middle rounds, but those picks are in need. Do platoon without Smith? If so I'd feel better with a pick in the 4th or 5th.

    5)
    >>OT - Tuten actually played well. Who was he blocking?

Nothing much. All the strength's on the other side, and Brown was handled overall by Steussie.

z>>Still a need. It doesn't look like Jeno James has done much to impress this staff, either.

I guess Tuten stays. Just hope not as a starter. Same for below, Mangum.

    >>6) TE - Walls is old. Maybe he can stick another year. He's made some fantastic catches this year, even if only a few.

I'm willing to see him come back, even though he's old, he's got bad knees, and he's an ill fit for this O. He's pretty damn high on the list for TE touchdowns right now, tied for third? It'd be nice to see him hobble on up the ladder a little more. Maybe it's just a desperate plea for a Hall of Famer and/or another ugly statue.
Chances are we neglect this position and we won't be good offensively until we address it.

As far as if we're at 6 to 8, yeah, we should be able to get a receiver no matter what, and even with Washington being out of the picture. Then the question becomes what of the QBs we like and whether he'll be there. I tend to think not and have to assume we'll still get a QB that fits very well in the 2nd.

What are the chances Texans go for the defensive lineman? They've got decent monetary value and average talent along the DL, but they could use the strength there, and Capers does tend to get mesmerized with the impact players there. Receiver is still a big need, I realize.

Yeah, Bailey would fit better weak side, though both he and EJ would be pretty damn good. Could push Morgan weakside since he's unable to stay healthy, but I'll be honest, I couldn't even possibly see us going LB this high. Morgan or not, we're still playing good ball with a guy who shouldn't be playing MLB in Witherspoon.

Carr should be pissed if they draft a DL first. He has been getting killed all year. I think Houston needs to make getting carr some protection a priority.

Houston's D is not that bad, or at least they have more needs than DL.

i agree- WR/QB is top priority. however, what about OT- do you think tuten can develop into a solid tackle, or do we look in FA or the draft?

And for TE - Heinrich had been impressive until his injury. As I recall, it wasn't really a season ender, but we IR'd him so we couold keep him off of waivers, kinda like with Dee Brown last year.

    Just a thought.

certainly OL is a bigger need than DL, but OL is the worst possible value in the first and they need to go with a free agent anyway.

Well, there aren't any McKinnie's or Davis' out there right now that I see. But there seems to be some strong right tackle types that could work later.

I think you guys have to much faith in the Panthers organization to re-vamp that offense. I think the draft goes defensive players in the first two rounds, a running back and receiver with our next two picks, then best available athlete. I don't think they will spend much money in free agency, either. They may make a move to bring in a QB like Plummer, Johnson, or King but I believe that's all we'll see. IMO, Fox has a 4 year plan with BIG PAPA RICHARDSON to put together a competitive team. They will be very conservitive in this offseason, IMO. I love this franchise but I have no faith that they will ever be good. I think Fox and Henning are horrible coaches. I hate the way the Weinke thing has been handled. Other than being able to field a pretty good defense I see nothing positive.

Right now, if it were me, I'd go with the FA. But Tuten's been adequate, so hopefully they'll draft someone to take over for him.

Speaking of that, Burton's proving his worth. I don't expect we'll touch the DL next season save Gilbert going.
