And on the American charts it was "Go Away Little Girl" by posted by Honeygirl

Actually, Joe Pope wrote that song also. He created the Tams from Atlanta, Georgia . Joe and his brother and Horace Keys. Joe's son still plays on the Holiday Inn circuit here in the South. They are called the "new" Tams now and do mostly songs that Joe wrote back in the 60's.

A lot of Carolina beach (R&B) bands went to England during the 50's and 60's because their music was not played on any radio stations in the South. One reason was because they were not mainstream Black. Another was because the music was too suggestive. We had a thing called ASCAP that controlled what was put on juke boxes around here.
That is also why The Drifters were referred to as the English Drifters for so many years. Temptations, Four Tops, a lot of them went to England.

Here's your song Honeygirl. That's Joe singing lead on it. They were a show band and didn't allow dancing when they sang live. That song is from the 60's but I found this about it. Re-released in England in 1972, this song was #1 for three weeks and was the biggest selling song in the UK that year, topping sales of Rod Stewart's mega-hit "Maggie Mae."
