What to do with Terry?

I know we have pressing needs at the corners and it sure would be nice to add a big play wide out, but I really think we need to take a hard look at OT's in the draft. I'm sorry but I've never been sold on Terry and Steussie's not getting any younger.

Terry is still, at worst, an average RT. Before the draft I stated that I'd like to see him moved to guard, still would! That is if we could get a RT to replace him. He is pretty athletic for an O-lineman, but I favor the bigger OT's. Terry as a pulling guard sounds kind of cool to me.

I actually agree. Terry to left guard? He's a damn fine inline blocker and probably now has the strength to take on people versus the pass in a short area. Moving him to LG and Nesbit to RG would work fine for me. But we'd need a RT, leaving us where we are. All we'd do is negate James long term.

But we'd be upgrading overall, and there's more room for mistakes at LG, as long as you keep your man in front of you.

What about the mistakes before the snap?

No room for that, but part of his lining up problems are him being a whole man behind Walls who is lining up right on the line. Technically you could be legally staggered and just have a TE standing up on the cusp of the neutral zone. the other part is that he's not allowing for that and keeps trying to cheat back.
At guard he'll have to be closer to the line no matter what.

I actually had this penalty my first play on the field of my life. Pretty fucking stupid penalty to get but nobody had ever mentioned to me the rule. That's what I get for not playing until I was a second-year.

Mags, you and I tossed this idea a bit when I brought it up before. It's a logical idea, for sure. Terry is, what, 6-3/6-4 295?
I like a OT to be at least 6-5 310 and that would be on my low side preference, but you get much bigger than that and risk loosing athletism...but there are guys with just that, the size and the moves.
An O-line with Steusie_Terry_Mitchell_Nesbit_Youngster would be tight. We'd have to have a LT in waiting though...Robert Gallery anyone? He's a couple years out yet but I'd like to see my boy end up in Carolina in 2004! I'll be pimpin' him all the way!!!
It's more for fodder than anything else, but ponderous! It would mean an extended commitment to Terry very soon.

i'm thinking that Terry has been taking stupid penalties ever since he's been on the team. he was an eyesore (or in my case, an earsore) this weekend. if Fox can get him to quit being the weak link on the offense and start playing winning football, then he should get coach of the year honors for that alone. my initial thought would be to bench but would that make a dumbass any smarter? ya can't live with him continuing to kill the offense. my guess is that he gets a little "extra" coaching until he quits messing up.

  8. I obviously didn't see the game but...holding penalties are not mental break-downs, they are what happens when you are beaten physically. It is more of a technique and talent issue rather than a mental issue.

I think Terry's were more flase start and illegal formation.

    Terry the drive killer:

    3-6-BAL46 (8:30) R.Peete pass to M.Muhammad to BLT 36 for 10 yards (C.McAlister).
PENALTY on CAR-C.Terry Illegal Formation 5 yards enforced at BLT 46 - No Play. (killed the drive)

    3-8-BAL47 (13:28) R.Peete pass to B.Hoover to BLT 36 for 11 yards (G.Baxter).
PENALTY on CAR-C.Terry Ineligible Downfield Pass 5 yards enforced at BLT 47 - No Play. (next play 18 yards to Walls 1st down)

    1-10-CAR44 (8:01) R.Peete pass to L.Smith to BLT 47 for 9 yards (R.Lewis).
PENALTY on CAR-C.Terry Offensive Holding 10 yards enforced at CAR 44 - No Play. (killed drive)

In addition to these, Walls had a false start on a 3rd and 9, punted next play.

Peete had the delay of game on a 3rd and 2, killed drive.

But Terry was the bad guy, and has been all preseason on this year. The holding doesn't piss me off as much as the stupid mental stuff.

hehe, Terry's the football version of WYDD.

Not only did all three of those penalties fuck us royally but all three of them were at midfield. I can somewhat excuse an illegal downfield on a screen type call, but not when it comes with two more penalties and a sack.
