That really sucks for State. He looked likea promising player and played a lot better as the season went on

I think it's going to amount to nothing.

NC State assistant athletics director for media relations Annabelle Vaughan confirmed that Gavin Grant is still in Raleigh and the Wolfpack sophomore is expected to begin practice with the team this weekend.

"Gavin is still here and is in study hall tonight," Vaughan said. "He is expected to be at Friday's media day and at the first day of practice."

Vaughan couldn't discuss other details over Grant's current situation because of student-athlete privacy laws. He should be available for comment this Friday at NC State's annual media day.

WTVD-11 News reported this afternoon that Grant may be deported as an illegal immigrant and that sources informed Eyewitness News that Grant will be taken to Atlanta for a hearing, then deported to Jamaica.

However, according to sources close to the situation it seems very unlikely that Grant will be deported, and the situation should be resolved in the near future. Grant played in 33 games last season, starting four for the Wolfpack. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds and is expected to compete for the starting spot vacated by Julius Hodge.
