According to his interview, he popped the ACL on the first play. He said that he heard and felt the pop, there was no question that it happened on the first play. They x-rayed it and didn't see any damage. He thought it was hyper-extended. THey had him running on the sideline and going up against an OT in a three point stance. He and they thought that if it was only hyper-extended that he'd be ok (MSP speculated that since he was out most of last season he probably was in denial, too).

They braced it and then when he was doubleteamed he said he felt bones sliding because the ACL wasn't there. Thats when he came out the second time.

it was pretty obvious watching him get run over that he couldn't give any push with that leg. This one is on Fox.

Not to be a total homer and defend the coach, but they have to rely on what the trainers and the player are saying.

They didn't know about the damage until they did an MRI, which they don't have at the stadium. I agree with MSP that Jenks was in denial and couldn't accept that he was done for the season, again.

Why would it be on Fox if he popped his ACL on the first play?

he hears and feels a pop...unless he kept that to himself, he should not have been put back in the game. the fact he was being run over should have let the coaches know he was injured.

I could see him staying in during a playoff game...but the 1st game of the season?

I think that was the denial thing. He couldn't accept it, and after what he went thru last season during rehab, I guess its understandable. Not right, but understandable.

I'm not denying that he wanted to play.

there are two tests that are done that can show if the acl was likely torn. the training staff would have obviously done them after the classic "I heard it pop." an x-ray is basically useless. there also would have been immediate swelling. someone missed the boat or jenkins lied to the trainers.

I'd like to know if by playing he did further damage...possibly straining other tendons or ligaments...or if the acl was partially completely torn and by playing he finished off the tear. he might have been able to comeback for the last couple of games or the playoffs.

If it was already popped, what the differance? I know people who have finsished a day of skiing on a popped acl. They are fine now.
