What MOVIE did you see that was even better than the BOOK?

Often it is the book that is better than the movie so I was wondering if anyone has found the opposite to be true.
For me the best example of that was

The Shipping News = Pulzier Prize novel (don't get that part)
The movie starring Kevin Spacey was really good depite the fact that most of the Newfie accents were very "fake". Being a "Newfie" myself I was able to overlook that part and GET the humor. I didn't see anything humerous about the book.

The 13th Warrior was OK but Eaters of the Dead upon which it was based sucked royally.

    book was awful...
it's rare in movies when direction and acting are able to overcome a hokey story and a special effects star, but jaws accomplishes just that.
