I haven't drunk a beer in months. For some reason I'm going through an extended cider-drinking phase.

    Magnus in a Panthers thread:

"I paid $13.50 for two Bud Lights at the 4 min mark of the 2nd quarter after my brother in law bought the first round."

You actually admit to drinking Bud Light? :22_yikes:

only bud light I've had in years. That's kinda how things roll at the ballgame unfortunately. Trust me I'll make up for it tonight.

Is Thomas Hardy's or Traquair less expensive over there? Are there more varieties of things like Young's, Fuller's out that way? Does Wales have much in indigenous brewing?

When I'm at games I usually pay a bit more for the smaller breweries' produce, stuff like Pete's Wicked if I can get it. Bud is way down my list.

All beer is cheaper in the UK (as you probably know), and though the country is pretty small, beer is very localised when you consider 'the good stuff'. Hardy's, Young's and Fuller's is rarely found in Wales, and I have to be honest - I've never heard of Traquair! I've lived in London in the past and Young's Special was a particular favourite, and Fuller's ESB has had adverse affects on my kidneys on a few occasions.

Wales has a few brews: Brain's is a good beer, brewed in Cardiff. The SA (Special Ale, also known as Skull Attack) is awesome. Don't drink it outside Cardiff, though, because it doesn't 'travel' too well. Felinfoel, brewed in LLanelli, is good too. Their Double Dragon ale is great, and has the distinction of being the world's first beer that was successfully canned. It's still, in my opinion, the best canned beer. There are also many 'micro' brews.

There's a massive selection of beers available in supermarkets, of course. I'm currently drinking little other than cider, though my lady just came back from the shops with 4 bottles of Kronenbourg Blanc for me. It's a wheat beer with a touch of citrus. Love it!

I'm so looking forward to my trip to the States in a few weeks time. I'll be hitting the bars of Charlotte before I unpack my case!

traquair is the oldest house in scotland. According to their website the house is from 1107 and is celebrating 900 years this year.
Apparently the Stuarts inhabited it. Anyway, they make a house ale and a Jacobite ale, both of which I had at beer dinners, and the bastards are like $8 for a 12 oz bottle.

shame y'all don't get some of the big brewery stuff out that way. If I come across any of the Welsh brew I'll give it a try.

I get a bottle of Jacobite every year at the international store in rochester. It's $5.50 a bottle. The Hardy's is through the roof. depending on the vintage, you can pay as much as $20 per bottle, about nine ounces.

Lotta good reading here. I am going to print this off for future shopping purposes. When my wife and I were over seas (pre child) we drank a good amount of the local brews, Trappist in particular. Good easy drinking beers with a great taste and body. I never have been able to drink a stout beer. I just can't get by having to floss my teeth after drinking a beer. Now a black and tan isn't as bad.

My mini fridge is currently dominated by BB Burgerbrau and Dinkel Acker. I'm going east coast next though, with Brooklyn Pilsner and Iron City.

I also have a bunch of microbrew singles. Too many good ones to list, but a couple I didn't care for:

Breckenridge Vanilla Porter - overpowering burnt marshmallow taste.

Brother Thelonius - tastes like English leather. But I mostly bought it for the bottle anyway.

Both of these beers get decent reviews. Obviously I'm not a connesiur.

I had a few San Miguels last night (Spanish beer, pretty good), followed by a Foster's lager (kangaroo piss). I'm still drinking cider more regularly than beer, though.

When I'm in Charlotte (less than two weeks away) I'll be staying Uptown in the Marriott and will be drinking mainly in 'Fox and Hound' and 'Rock Bottom' (if they're still there - I haven't been to Charlotte since 2001). Anywhere else recommended in Uptown?

I'll probably make my way to South End once in a while. I'm told that the Southend Brewery isn't too good, so where do people recommend in that area?

grabbed some solid stuff for fall this week - Avery Imperial Oktoberfest (9.5% ...a beast), Avery Barleywine, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin, Post Road Pumpkin, Cottonwood Pumpkin, Brooklyn Oktoberfest and their Lager, trying out Saranac's Oktoberfest and grabbed some Spaten Oktoberfest too. just grabbed a couple of each, will go back for what I liked most.

also had 750ml Golden Monkey at Total Wine for $3.50, has to be a typo, it's $9 everywhere else, so grabbed a couple of those
