What is wrong with the Heels?

As our next opponent, I have been reading as much as possible about the Heels' state of affairs. (No pun intended) Seems that some fans from all venues are writing them off this season, citing poor technique, mistakes, and more mistakes as proof the coaching staff has fallen asleep at the helm.

I have had the chance to watch them in each of their games this season and these are a few of my personal opinions and observations for the upcoming game.

1: The Heels are not about to collapse. Sure there are a lot of mistakes, but just as in years past with the Pack, a lot of the mistakes come from being over matched. this is not about coaching but about trying to perform with superior atheletes. Yeah you can do it for short spurts, but in the long run, lack of speed, strength, and experience will show, usually in the form of a mistake. This has nothing to do with coaching. Bunting is a solid coach, solid individual, at a great school, and given the time will correct some of the atheletic deficiencies on this years team. This lack of atheleticsm is not across the board, but in enough key positions to expose the rest of the team. A few good key recruits at LB, DL & OL and the heels are a top 25 team.

2:The Heels have a lot of heart. If you were impressed with Texas Tech's heart in the 4th quarter, take a look at how the Heels responded vs Texas.

3:A lot of misplaced emphasis from Chapel Hill is being placed on streaks. Fact is both teams have relatively new coaching staffs, and have placed a relatively new emphasis on football. The only streaks that matter would be the ones with the current staffs and level of support from within. Amato is 1-1, Bunting is !-0. Given the direction these two are taking their respective schools, given time I would anticipate the series between the two to be about a 50/50 proposition.

With those OPINIONS in place, I fully expect the Pack to be pretty dominant on 10/12. The Heels lost a lot to the NFL last year and State has a full plate on offense. State also has really beefed up the amount of overall team speed on defense. Just don't count out the Heels, they are not on the edge of ruin. I only hope for both programs that in the very near future, these 2 teams meet on a regular basis with the ACC title in the balance!!!

Football, if FSU keeps dropping back to the rest of the ACC.

As far as our next game, if everything goes according to plan we should win, but I'm a little concerned about a let-down, after the TT comeback and Amato was a little pissed about lack of effort against UMass, now a bye week. We better come to CH fired up and ready to play, but thats the coaches job. Some people are talking that we could run the table and head into the BCS game undefeated and kick out a team with one loss that's played a tougher schedule (SEC for example). One of the reasons college ball should have a playoff system. Can you imagine if we're 12-0 heading into the last game against FSU? Talk about a huge game, thank God we're playing them in Raleigh. Also worried about the Clemson game. Their game against FSU this weekend should tell alot about both teams. There is supposedly some sort of rift on the Semenholes team right now, Rix is being a pussy. What I hear anyway.

I'm not getting my hopes up about any result this year. We haven't played anyone, and we have a potentially destructive second-half let down almost every game we've played thus far. If we do well with the rest of the schedule, I'll get excited about next year. But for now, I'm just going to have fun with this year and see how stack up.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Ga. Tech game in Raleigh. That will be a good game.

Sorry but the BCS will take 11-1 team who has actually played someone before they take a 12-0 team who has played the weakest schedule in in Div 1-A.

Hard to argue about our SOS. Didn't that happen a couple of years ago though? A school getting in that played a weak schedule? It was controversial then. Maybe they were just considered for it.

    Wrong.

If State is 13-0, that means they are undefeated in ACC play, which means they are the ACC champions, which means an automatic BCS bid. Whether it would mean a shot in the title game is certainly up for argument.

Yes yes yes. The only game Fowler (AD) had any control over this year in terms of scheduling was the date of the UMass game. He couldn't get any I-A team to commit, so he had to go I-AA.

All the other non-conference games were scheduled by Les Robinson, who is now AD at The Citadel.

Fowler says no more I-AA teams will be scheduled. Here's a list of future non-conference opponents, and the I-AA teams were NOT scheduled by Fowler.

2002: East Tennessee State, @ Navy, @ Texas Tech., Massachusetts
2003: Western Carolina, Texas Tech, @ Ohio State, Connecticut
2004: Navy, Ohio State, East Carolina in Charlotte
2005: @ Virginia Tech, Louisville, Central Florida
