ok, let me throw this at you.......

Good responses from you guys btw, the drug policy issues were something I failed to touch on, good points there too.

Analogy I heard on the Mike & Mike ESPN Radio show Friday morning. If the NFL had the same salary/trade deadline policy as MLB - what would that be like? Imagine that a team like, lets say...the Jets, are very close to making the play-offs and the trade deadline is approaching. They need a back and Marshall Faulk is available. The trade goes through and he joins the team in November, for instance. How would this trade or this type of scenario play out for the franchises and fans of the NFL? What if a team that had deep pockets was allowed to spend at will and aquire any player they wanted? How would the fans react? What would happen to the poorer teams? What long term impact would this have on the NFL? Could we relate some of the attendance/competition issues with MLB to their flawed policies? Could these policies be potentially damaging or near fatal to the league as a whole?

things like the hard cap, trade restrictions, the DH, etc., all point to one thing - strike. In the end, the baseball factions are all scared to make the necessary changes because inevitably it will come to disagreement, and MLB is a little gunshy about it all. One thing at a time, I guess, but so much of what's worked well for football was just naturally blended in (since FA started, no major crises between the NFLPA and NFL), and I don't know if that's as easily done here.

Trades, specifically, are harder to regulate because there aren't many player/player trades in the NFL, but they're the norm in MLB. I guess that has somewhat to do with the whole farm system v/s draft pick importance, but it's a different ballgame.

i think this is exactly the reason. baseball and football are alot different in this area.

i still say the biggest problem is fehr. nothing will get done with him around. he is too egotistical and tries to rub that off on all the player reps.

even with him gone, it will take baby steps. one issue at a time. i would like to see some sort of cap set first. that is #1 in my mind.
