that is going to be pretty nice. are the Lions playing there this year?

  2. yeah, i just hope they can put a more competitive team on the field.

They are changing everything up there. The owner is getting up there in age and has finally made the decision to build a championship caliber team instead of just a competitive team. Check out their new practice facility....also argueabley the best in the NFL.

pretty cool stuff. First dome built in a while??

  4. Seattle's is kinda a part dome thing. It is pretty cool too. The fans are protected but the field is open.

Minnesota needs one, the owner is starting the standard "threatening to move so the tax payers can build him one." New York is starting to plan them for their teams but I think they are leaning toward regular stadiums. The thing with teams in the North is that their only chance of hosting a Superbowl is to have a domed stadium. Detroit got 2005 and has hosted them in the past. Chicago and New York would be great cities for a superbowl but until either get a dome it won't happen....

High tech grass. Sand and cryogenic rubber. Superior drainage and footing in bad weather. What in the hell are they talking about bad weather inside a dome for. Salesman!!!

Oh well, players did say that the stuff is better than natural grass at many fields. Probably talking about GB's last year and ours.

Aren't the clubseats/skyboxes housed in an old warehouse next door, which was incorporated in the design of FORD FIELD ? That was pretty cool vs. tearing it down to build more parking spaces :) . . I guess this would make it the first retro looking football stadium, correct ? ? ?

FYI-Chicago has finally started renovating SOLDIER FIELD; the Bears will be playing at Univ. of Illinois this year down the road in Champaign. They are gutting the entire old seating bowl and will use the entire field as the new stadium (the actual stadium was a big 'U' shaped, but when it was renovated for the Bears in the early 1970's the open end of the stadium was cut off and brought in). It won't be domed, and the old style colonnade's will be left intact.

Concerning New York, I knew that plans to build the Yankees & Mets new $1 billion retractable roof stadiums were rejected by the new mayor of New York, _______ Bloomberg the first day he was in office (he said the city couldn't afford it right now). I know that the new owner of the Jets wants to have a new stadium, but their lease at the Meadowlands doesn't run out until later on this decade (2006-08 range) but I'm sure he's looking at potential sites now anyhow. I would think the Giants would be happy with their stadium, but since it will be 30 years old in another 4 years, I'm sure they will be crying for a new crib eventually too.

  7. yeah an entire side of it is the old Hudson's warehouse....they built it into the design. The playing surface is actually going to be underground (from the outside level) giving the stadium what appears to be a small profile. The NFL didn't award the Lions a home night game on national TV, the only time the country will get a look at it is on Thanksgiving.

About the turf...Seattle used it last year because they were at Husky Stadium, I beleive Nebraska has it and some other big name college schools. It is good for recruiting because you are much less likely to get an injury from the field conditions. The Lions and Seahawks are both putting it in their new stadiums...I beleive Philly is considering it. I'd imagine that all fields will be using it in 5 or 6 years.
