What bothers me about singers and other performers today

Does anyone else notice that a lot of singer and groups today all sound the same? With the exception of just a few, for the most part, when I hear some of the newer performers on the radio, I don't know their names and their style doesn't stand out like acts from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

For example, I mean, you know when you hear Gladys Knight or Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Stephanie Mills, even Whitney Houston, etc. You know when you hear Luther Vandross, Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, even Boys II Men. (I'm sure you guys can name many others.) But a lot of the newer performers don't seem to stand out, and a lot of them use sampling in so many of their songs, riding on the success of others before them. I think it's a shame.

Finished with my rant for today.;)

I agree somewhat... and then you have girls like Mandy Moore who in my opinion has 10x a greater voice than Miss Spears. From what I have seen it looks like Mandy chose not to sell her skin to sell records... good for her.

OK... so I enjoy an occasional glance at Miss Spears... :D

I like Mandy, too. I love her singles "Candy" and "Take me home." Her voice sounds a lot better than Spears. Britney had a few songs I like, but her personality doesn't appeal to me and seems rather phoney.

I remember in the '80's people saying the same thing. Now all of a sudden they each had their own distinct sound. I never put much thought to it either way.

not the ones i listen to anyways. i dont know much of the boy bands. to me they do sound similar, but if i said that to my teenage niece, she will tell me different. :D

i was once told john mayer sounds like the beatles! i like the beatles, and mayer, but i think their music is not even remotely similar.
