With bigtime NBA and NHL hockey games on all this week, NASCAR in town, we are left to listen to Mac and Celania talk about the following:

- How Mac needs to get his man-card back because he watched Brokeback Mtn
- The whole Charlotte vs. Raleigh fanbase argument. Puhleese. Get over it folks and just enjoy the good sports that we're seeing.
- Idiot callers who have to rag on hockey. Very simple - if you don't like it, don't watch it.
- How Celania hit on Jessie James
- Brokeback Mac bits
- Dirty Cooking
- The guys begging listeners to join them for Thursday, er, Monday golf.

What's missing from this list? Of course real conversations about the sports themselves.

Very sad. I for one miss Gary Williams. AT least he actually brought decent guests on and talked sports and broke down the games.

I honestly question whether Mac and Celania even see the games.

 

Chris - I couldn't agree more with you. But I guess playing to the lowest common fan brings more ratings. God forbid there actually be a cerebral sports radio show. About 3 years ago i emailed Packman saying how much I thought QCB brought down the quality of the show and he responded back asking me to give him time. I'd say 3 years is enough.

Packman has clearly jumped the shark, but he's gotten too big to be canned.

 

Honestly, this whole 'Mac' thing really makes me appreciate Sandy Penner that much more. I mean, I always loved the guy and thought that Czabe and Penner were the absolute pinnacle of Charlotte Sports Talk (not saying that much but that show was fantastic.) I thought Penner Rd 2 was a little disappointing, perhaps I had thought too highly of his original work or something. If you remember Mac played it a lot more straight back then, letting Sandy be the 'crazy one' but I never felt like the show was that great.

But holy christ it's the equivalent of fucking Masterpiece Theater compared to Mac by himself or Mac in the Mornings. I can't think of another local guy I despise more than Mac, his gimmick sucks, he's not funny, he's not insightful, he never has a point, AND he's abrasive.

As bad and as bland and as boring as Pacman is, and he is, he still gets good guests, he still sometimes has a decent co-host, and he doesn't make your ears bleed. I don't listen to either of them, but if I had to choose I'd choose Primetime every day. Maybe Packer has decided to water down the rest of the station so he'll stand out. I know he hated Penner when they debuted together, and was probably jealous of the chemistry he showed with Czaban when the two got together finally.

 

MAC SUCKS! awful Beavis @ Butthead radio. completely juvenile. as SN put it is all about mancards,brokeback mac,his stupid callers,etc. I dont even listen to him. however I was listening to Frank/Buck and Buck was standing up for some comments he made about Mac apparently(over that Jessie James interview). so I went to the website and listened to the interview. I guess she is a singer and they treat this girl like a porn star and they are Howard Stern. how emberrasing to the station and the city. how Mac had a show on Sirius is beyond me.

Packer overall isn't that bad until he gets on his high horse like he runs shit in this town. "Im takin my dirty pickup to Quail Hollow screw those people!" and his overall pompous attitude are his main downfall. also funny is how he claims "I dont know who is on the show until I walk in here" yet he was pimpimg Richard Petty is gonna be on tomorrow. kept saying it. Dont think I ever heard the King the next day. another is how he rags the Observer to no end. "dont read it ,let the dog take a crap on it" yet he knew what Langston Wertz last column was about and took a shot at him.

Jim goes to bed at 7pm every night now, so I doubt he even goes to sporting events anymore . . . Didn't he just make his first trip to Halton Arena for a UNCC Hoops game just a couple of years ago? I respect his 30+ years of work in TV, but if you are going to work at a sportstalk station you should go to a live event every so often I would think !!!!!!

Yeah, the Dirty Cooking bits stink . . . . I don't know if someone at the station is writing the bits O-R its Jim Cutler (voice over mega talent) Jim Cutler Webiste. I don't know why MAC ATTACK and Co. cant go up to Raleigh for one of the weekend Stanley Cup playoff games; Oh that's right, they might actually leave the game liking hockey for a change (I will give Packman props for finally going to a Canes game live and realizing 'Hey, hockey is a great sport live!!!!!').

I thought Gary Williams was awful, talked about golf way too much, and was very pompous. He was way better than Mac in that morning slot. Now I try to not bother listening unless there is a big story. Don't know what you've got till its gone.

 

It was very informative this morning, finding out what team callers would be willing to trade to Raleigh to get the Canes. ffs
