I haven't seen this brought up, so here.

Weinke is still a question mark. I'd say there's about as good a chance as not that we'll be looking in FA for a starting QB next year. ( I hope not, I loved what I saw of Weinke before the shoulder.)

What would Weinke's cap hit be next year if we released him?

What FA qb's would be avaiable?
Any that Henning has experience with?

Keep Weinke on the bench. Rodney Peete is kicking ass!

No cap hit, really. He had a small signing bonus. He won't make any incentives this year.

It's too soon to say what will happen the rest of the year, but let's say Peete starts all 16 for arguments sake. We can bring Weinke back and let him compete cap wise. So it's a question of whether Fox wants to give him a chance, or if he just doesn't like him.

OK speaking of Rodney Peete and Weinke.....

What's the deal with how well Peete is playing?

During the preseason, we all kinda knew the defense was good - if not very good. The offense, save Foster and Fasani versus the guys who aren't in the NFL, was awful.

The offense is what had everyone worried. No one knew what Peete would do, and what he did in the past wasn't great.

Right now, I'd say Peete is the life blood of the offense. He's the difference. I don't think we'd have won these games with Weinke.

Shows you how much preseason success really means. Nothing. Look at the Jets and Skins.

Peete's played better than anyone gave him credit for, me included. He's a smart vet who knows the system.

To be honest I think the ONE thing Peete has that Weinke doesn't is that FIRE to win... he gets fired up game time... he gets excited... he goes out with that "They're gonna MAKE me lose this game"... he dares the other team to beat him on the field... he may seem soft spoken off the field but watch his demeanor on... this gets the rest of the offense rallied behind him... and until Weinke can get the rest of his team to play like that on the field he'll NEVER be a winning QB again.

  7. 1) Peete gets rid of it. He looks to number one, if not open, he checks to number two, if not open, he throws it out of bounds. It is the same offensive line Weinke played with, they didn't miraculously get better overnight. He keeps them out of losing yard via sacks...makes play calling easier when you are not in 2nd and long....3rd and long, etc.

    2) Lamar Smith has given them a solid running game. DLmen can't just tee off on the pass rush, they have to look for the run first.

    3) Accuracy...he not only gets rid of it but he puts it where it can be caught...except if throwing to Mangnum, the guy can't catch. Incompletes lead to 2nd and longs, 3rd and longs and failed 3rd down conversions. Part of ball control is completing the passes.

    4) Few turnovers...he's making the right reads.

    5) They have't had to play from behind vey much. If they ever get to be down by a couple of TD's, they'll have to abondon their game plan and starting throwing more...

Other QB's who played for Henning. Henning went to Indy after leaving Detroit...I'm not sure who Peyton's backups have been. Erik Kramer and Scott Mitchell are out of football. I'm not sure where Henning was before he was in Detroit.

I don’t get that sense at all.

He’s just winning. Once you win, you get that aura.

Henning was at Washington before Detroit.

The number one thing with Peete is his accuracy. Weinke has the stronger arm, and got rid of it too, but wasn’t always accurate. He didn’t take a lot of sacks, because our offensive line is pretty good. Unlike, say, Detroit’s.

Henning was the OC for the Redskins during the Joe Gibbs Superbowl era.
