I could not help Lewis anymore, he went wacko. (Still believe the skills are there, he just needs some paxil or something) - but to answer your question, yes, I would have put in Craig or whoever we had on the roster...

There were games when it got so ugly , 99.9% of the rookies would have been benched, if not for a game, for a few quarters.

Thank god I was not in Sieferts shoes, then I would have been an unemotional dick with no clue as to what to do or how to motivate anybody. That had to be one of the worst displays of coaching in NFL history.

Limited ability as defined by Sandman: This is when a QB becomes average or below when forced out of the pocket or fails to read when he should either roll out or run forward in an effort to move the chains.

Yes limited in regards to the fact he has yet to realy prove he can throw on the run, that he can create things, improvise. If Fasani could be coached, which I think he can, he has much more ability.

Yes, many teams win with QBs that have limited ability, they go to Superbowls, this is good, hell its wonderful. It still does not change the fact they have limited ability in the position and it is not a bad thing, just a boring thing. ;)

Edit: and they better have a damn good defense.

    In other words…
    Kurt Warner
    Kerry Collins
    Drew Bledsoe
    Dan Marino
    Warren Moon
Doug Williams (when he won the super bowl)
    Troy Aikman

    Very limited.
Also very boring. (Except for Collins. His fumbles are exciting)

Not all those guys were very limited. Its the difference from having a 57 chevy redone and one with rust, same car, one just runs better and looks better.

Warner - His offense (Faulk and ability to connect on deep balls - a bunch makes him exciting, in his limited ability.

Collins - Yes boring, but I am enjoying his comeback.

Bledsoe - Always thought he was boring. (never won it did he?)

Marino - Just a great leader, had more than one good season, consistent winner, sometimes boring.

Moon - Never really paid much attention to him

Williams - If I recall he could scamper here or there, never paid much mind to him either.

Aikman - One of the top 4 leaders at the spot all time. He was more than pocket, he made shit happen and had a knack for come from behind, pocket or no pocket, its fun to watch.

You forgot Dilfer - Boring, but a proven winner.

Williams was a great scrambler in Tampa, playing in the USFL mucked up his knee. He had zero scrambling in Washington. Pure pocket passer.

I must have missed those Favre like Aikman games.

I'm way to lazy today to dig the stats, but I thought Troy had many come from behind games which lead to victory. Pocket passer or not, that is exciting to watch. With the exception of Collins in '96 us Panther fans have not seen much from our Pocket QBs in the way of 4th qtr game winning performance - thats exciting. (Yes there were a few notable games here or there, but nothing more than a handful)

Re: Re: weinke on the way out?

I don't believe so, not at all. But that's nothing new.

So in the end, having limited skills means not being a scrambler?

When did that outweigh arm, accuracy, reads?

I guess it's up to what people feel is the way to go but if scrambling was what it's all about, we'd be seeing Randle-El as a QB. We'd have seen Deion Sanders as a QB, since he was one in HS.

Quarterback's job is to get the ball out there. In this system as well as most every system. the place to get it done is from within the pocket. I'd much rather have a guy who occasionally gets out of the pocket than one who runs for his life every other play (or more).

But that might jsut be me. To me, a quarterback's legs are at best a secondary weapon, and at worst a good way of bogging down an offense when it should simply be executed right.

Not bad, not quite how I would have written the text book definition but still good stuff...

To your point, that occasional does come around and that occasional can win ball games. I'm saying Winky has not proven he can do squat out of the pocket. As far as running for his life every other play, we don't know Fasani will do that, until he plays first string against first string... you could be right though... right now its just speculation.

If we have not won by mid-season then Weinke is out for good. Once there is no chance of a decent season then he is gone.
