it's a given that Weinke must improve. No one's doubting that.

I'm just concerned that this staff is looking hard - or PFT wants it to seem as so - at quarterbacks like Ragone or Leftwich and have already given up on Weinke, save to make him get us through the year. There's no way, and no room, for a final evaluation on him to have been passed already.

Agreed. Best case is Weinke looks good this year and the Panthers can grab a franchise WR or CB or DT next year. Fasini's improvement would further convince the Panthers to go another way. IMO, Leftwich, Ragone and some of the others still have something to prove. Leftwich seems top drawer though. If Manning is there (which I seriously doubt he is coming out) when we are picking I would take him regardless. Otherwise, maybe we look elsewhere. Having Washington, Rogers, Johnson or Williams on this team would do wonders for the offense. Right now Washington and Rogers stand out as BIGTIME difference makers. Williams and Johnson are also right up there as well though.

I think Winky has played as well as he can, given his limited abilities. I don't think it will be very exciting football but then us real Panther Fans probably could give a rats ass how exciting it is the next few years if we win more than 8 games.

He played well the last few quarters, well enough to help us win games. I just hope and I doubt very seriously FOX will spend as much time as that lame ass Siefert did waiting for Winky to blossom.

I look for Winky to have a good game tonight, Peete to come in get hurt and us to see 2 drives from Fasani pretty much like last week when he had all the 3rd stringers or guys headed out the door.

On another note. I love what the OC does at Dallas. Their backup will get to go with the first string and start the game. Least he understands you can't compare a 2nd or 3rd string QB when they are not in a "real" game situation with the "real" starters on both sides of the ball. Kudos to him.

he just went 14 of 17. you'd think most coaches would be pretty happy with those stats. this just seems like a really weird rumor at this time to me.

always the possibility of a trade ala Brett Farve (and Jeff Lewis).

Limited compared to Craig. That's what he meant.

    couple of other facts:

weinke was a rook last year on a horrible team (opinion: with an offense that didn't suit his talents)

most of the fans are expecting weinke to show a big improvement this season

    question: is he a winner?

Dallas has totally different situation than the Panthers.

uh, exactly what would you have done in Seifert's shoes last year? stuck with Lewis? gone to Craig? you're joking right?

Like running around in a circle, running into your own lineman, and falling down for a 15 yard sack. I forgot how "exciting" that was.

He got his britches full of fire after the first exhibition game - he saw Fasani was no puss so he came out in the second game and did better than the first. Peete is not going to give Winky that fire, thats why Fasani needs to be next in line. Winky knows his job would be at risk if Fasani had 2 quarters with the first string...

But this is all good, whatever it takes right?
