washer drum firepit

    anyone here ever build one? I made one over the weekend (removed the drum from an old washer and put legs on the bottom). I know it's gonna make a great firepit. My question is, can you cook on them (is it safe)? The drum is steel with the porcelain coating inside.

    I've cooked on them before, several years ago. But had a grill on top and then used a fry pan so not directly.
    Cool things about those, is with the holes you get heat coming out everywhere, not just the top.

    Or a grill for barbequeing stuff?

    yeah. It'll be more for use as a fire-pit than anything. Just wondered if it's safe to cook.

    those holes are nice for draft/ventilation, but you go through wood about twice as fast.
