We've done some offense, just not first round. Foster this year.

I guess it'll depend on DT depth. Jenkins was a grab in #2. A good front seven seems awfully important on out division.

But yeah, cb and wr are priorities.

    >>IMO, he doesn't look scared. he looks like he's trying to make a play. needs to learn when to hang and when to bail.

That's the problem, twofold. Running around and having not been sacked just means more time bought. If the only thing it buys is a sideline catch one out of four tries, it's not buying anything of worth, especially if it's always going to be a roll to one side.
That and I just don't like guys that bail. In preseason I'm looking to see the man throw to a receiver, not watch him run around. It's exciting to some, but I don't like it. I want to see the ball delivered.

    >>I don't think you're giving (Byrd) his due.

I'm giving him all I can. I have always felt he was our 2nd best behind Muhsin from the moment he came on.

Too many fans get real hyped about Hayes and Smith and everyone else that has the speed or the raw ability and every year I watch as those players are able to win the starting jop and make a few spectacular plays but keep us from having that player as a go-to option. Hayes had a lot of set plays made for him, and Smith will only have more. Byrd's a guy who just runs the route and gets open. And I can't ask for more from him. It's just that there's still a lot more to be asked of some of our others.

    >>"Other big run stopper"? By other, do you mean ...

#1 is Morgan. #2 was Fields. In my opinion the rest are a step behind.
They're all adequate - those two are explosive. Jackson, the likely starter, is active, a hard hitter, and a quick read. He's pretty quick as well. But the dropoff between Fields/Morgan to the rest of the runstopping is a big one. We'll be fine, but I'd much rather have Fields back if I could. ON the other hand I feel Jackson is better than Navies, all the same.

    >>Let's just hope he doesn't fizzle out like he did at the start of last year's regular season. Does this mean that DT is not quite the priority in next year's draft? I thought Buckner player really well against Dallas.

Nah, I think IMO it still is, though I do think that having to go get William Joseph, the only DT whose rush I truly think would be impactive, isn't a huge necessity. At first my push was that we had to go get another superior pass rusher.

    >>Where the Fuck is Wesley Walls?

probably in motion or blocking. Ugh.

Yeah, it's probably 100% true to say that Fox has so far looked to strengthen our run game and looked to piece together a passing game.
We didn't go O at all our first two years under Seifert, save OL.
The third year we got a reserve back, an erratic WR who shouldn't be starting on most teams, and a QB. Of course, we've had great results with OFA, getting Nesbit, Hoover as starters.

It's time we go get that explosive receiver. The guy who'll push Moose and compliment him. A deep threat that can still be a go-to for a game or two. In other words, we gotta go find a Jeffers with better knees.

On Fasani. He's a rook and he's playing like a rook. I would be one of the last to advocate him being put on the field during the coming regular season. He needs to stand on the sideline and learn until the game starts slowing down for him. Even if he is starter material, he's probably at least a 2-3 year project. Even if Weinke doesn't step up this season I won't be calling for Fasani to play. At this point all he'd do is run around and get himself injured. I'd rather wait till our OL is improved and he has some weapons to throw to before they consider starting him.

    >> ON the other hand I feel Jackson is better than Navies

from what i have seen so far. i don't agree. i really like Naives and don't really like Jackson. Think I like B. Allen better than Jackson but he seems to have on and off the field discipline problems, which may more than offset his physical talents and even get his ass cut. IMO the drop-off from Fields to Jackson is big but I think with our improved line and Morgan in the middle, he'll have enough help that we will still be very strong against the run. Panthers will beat Baltimore.

  4. you can't always beleive what you see in pre-season...often times, they play man coverage just for evaluation purposes, not matter what the game situation is...in the regular season, they will play a lot of zone to make up for the lack of talent...and speed.

    True that TS.

Head Case, I'm hopefule for Navies. He's fast and big enough, but can he stay healthy has always been the thing.

well, he's looked good upfield, but that's the only time I've noticed him. he's not in the class of Morgan or Fields, no, but he doesn't distinguish himself outside his immediate responsibility. Jackson does, but he's just looking very bland.

This thing will take some time. We probably need to be bad in terms of record (as ridiculous as that seems) this year. We need a few more bigtime players before we start thinking about being really good. I still think this team would benefit most from a dynamic, explosive WR who can stretch the field. However, CB is a obvious area of need too as is OL. I would be nice to see some pressure from our DTs too. Oh well, again this will take some time. The good news is, we are getting better talent-wise IMO.
