linksys sells this...it gives you telephone service through your internet high speed cable.

fricking comporium...dialing a 704 area code from an 803 is long distance. Forces you to buy unlimited long distance for $50/month. My total telephone bill is $70/month. Vongae is $20.

Anyone use this yet? Is it compatible with directv?

I use it for my home line. I pay $14.95 per month and get 500 free minutes. I have never used more than 25 minutes cause my cell is what I usually use. It faxes and I can use a modem to dial in if I want even though I have to have high speed to make it work. So I would assume it works with Direct TV, still need a high speed connection. btw....go to Vonage.com and the equipment is free. Or used to be.

i've used it. if you don't mind a delay between when you speak and when the person hears you, then go for it. the guy who had the service couldn't stand it and dumped it. he found it to be rather annoying.

I was worried about that too nut, but mine doesn't have a delay. I did read that sometimes with DSL that can happen, but not with cable. Dunno. works great ghere.

Yup. One thing I won't miss until the new house is ready. We're just using our work cell phones until then.

A problem wiith Vonage and any VOIP (voice over IP) is there is no emergency 911 service tied to it.. So if someone was to break in your house and slash your throat rendering you speechless ..dialing 911 is useless... :twocents:

VP is right again. 911 service is not mandatory though and it is up to you to participate by making sure the voip service has your correct address..
