That may be a Woodward thing. I used to get lots of requests for donations to various things at UNCC, I don't ever get them now either other than a phone call for the annual fund, something from the Development office for giving them stocks/bonds and the usual reminders from the Athletic Foundation. Maybe that had something to do with being on the Board of Governors back then. Most contributions I've sent come from seeing it in newsletters, the magazine or the internet, not a personal request.

I've always throught graduates should be hit hard as soon as they leave. Even if it's a $10 contribution, it gets them in the habit of contributing.

Really, that's weird. I get a call every quarter from Chapel Hill. manned by students, so it's not like the overhead can be extremly high or anything. I would think that UNCC would be doing the same.

I got called just a month ago asking me to give to the business school...I gave my $50 and they said part would go to the general fund for the University....and yes, it was a student calling.

Decourcey's take on A-10 and football

Decourcey (Sporting News) actually does give his take on the impact of a footabll program at Charlotte...at the Charlotte rivals.com site.

    http://charlotte.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=228527

There is a consensus around Charlotte that the answer to all of the conference realignment talk is a football program. “The pigskin will cure all” is the thought, but with the Niners failing to consistently sell out Halton Arena, is football really a smart move?

“If they had a football program, it would probably lose money,” said DeCourcy. “They probably wouldn’t be able to support it at the level they would need. Just look at the southern tier schools that aren’t very strong and haven’t been able to commit themselves fully to basketball, because they’ve been propping up Division 1-A football programs that are mostly money losers.”

    ------------------
I agree that it would probably lose money. I wish we could support it. If we could, I would be all for starting the program. We have to get more Alumni involved and they need to give back. We're getting there.

Re: Decourcey's take on A-10 and football

Decourcy is dead wrong here. USF doesn't sell hardly any basketball tix, alot less than us if fact. That is irrelevant to football. Does USF sellout the Sundome? No. USF has the invitation to the Big East right now. You can't argue that.

about the only intelligent defense of UNCC vs. USF starting football, is that USF might recieve some state funding where we do not, pointed out by HP. I would like to see those financials.
