there are some rumblings that Lutz and staff are upset that USF is being considered for a Big East slot, if this is so, what don't they understand? That is tough to swallow because we have outperformed them in hoops by so much, but usf had the guts to start football several years ago, and are now going to be rewarded.

And the BE wants to be able to go into the fertile Florida area for football players, the Southeast area schools are leaving behind. They'll sacrifice the travel expenses for that. I don't know if USF can survive on "local" trafiic alone. They'll not draw many visitors for football or basketball due to the length of travel.

this is downright sad. shame on our leadership for not putting thier necks on the line 6 or 7 years ago for football. USF and UNCC are almost identical in age, revenue, demographics, etc. They just bit the bullet and quit making excuses and saw the future. Our leadership should be ashamed.

The state of North Carolina does not provide any funding for athletics thru the UNC system either, something that is done in Florida, one resason UCF and USF have programs.

HP, USF isn’t getting many visitors now in CUSA. They will now get the opportunity to play bigger names in football and basketball, and that will help improve attendance.

USF is the model of how to start a successful 1A program in this day and age. If Charlotte had the balls to start a program when USF did we’d be in a lot better situation then we are right now. I’m ashamed as a fan of Charlotte athletics that our leadership failed where USF’s succeeded.

I’m obviously dreaming here, but imagine this 12 team conference.

    Charlotte
    Cincinnati
    Louisville
    Memphis
    Pittsburg
    WVU
    UConn
    Rutgers
    Syracuse
    USF
    UCF
    ECU

    What could have been.

I'm not denying that but the fact of the matter is CUSA never wanted Charlotte to begin with, only after we threatened to sue were we included. The "powers" wanted to go football and they showed us who was calling the shots, Louisville. And a pretty decent BB conference bites the dust.

We had the opportunity to add football in CUSA, and we didn’t. Now we are relegated to the A10 (nothing against the A10, they are a great bball conference), and we may never have the opportunity to start 1A football again.

Maybe my expectations are too high for Charlotte athletics, but you would think a university with 20,000 students located in a city with headquarters of nine Fortune 500 companies would be able to start a football program.

Nice thought, but if that were the case the University would have a much larger endowment, 50% of the alumni base would be contributing something and all sports would be fully scholarshipped.

And the last time I saw the NCAA rules, we can't have Wachovia logos on the uniforms. ;)

hp, my biggest problem with the funding at Charlotte is the lack of aggressiveness in seeking it. I have lived in the same residence for 4 years now and never get asked for gifts thru the mail. We need more aggressive fund raising among the alum base. You can't get funding if you dont ask for it.
