    Most providers will force you to buy a new phone as well, as Cingular tried to make me do. This way you use the phone you want.

    I've always gotten a new phone and signed a contract. Of course, I've been pretty happy with Verizon for the last 5 years or so, so it doesn't really matter that much to me. Speaking of which, it's probably about time to get a new, free phone. :woot:
