If somehow UCF were to fenagle a BE invite -- further proving the keystone cops are alive and well and headed by Mike Tranghese -- there is the obvious concern of filling that #12 slot. Some have advocated LaTech, others Temple.

But I've concluded that the best possible alternative (if not, better than even adding UCF anyway given how their football program has taken such a nosedive) is to elicit a UNC-Charlotte decision to add football.

    Geographically, they are perfect.

They have always featured a competitive hoops program.

And, they are already members of the club.

So, how bout someone from Charlotte adding some intelligence and insight to this proposal... is there any possiblity that the school harbors a remote interest in football?

    Welcome to TBR.com sturt!!!!!!

Welcome aboard sturt   !!!!!

MY .02: I would love to see Charlotte get football, but considering this community lukewarmily supports the hoops program (we will never be as good as the ACC teams   . . ) I wonder how many folks would actually show up for a Charlotte football game (I mean, we have had HALTON ARENA for several seasons now, and you still can't get students to fill that place up   !!!!!!). We would have to build an on campus stadium eventually somewhere in the University Area . . Where would it go  (maybe someplace around I-485 perhaps)? In the meantime, we would have to play at Ericcsion Stadium (don't even say Memorial Stadium!!!!!!!!!) and I wonder how much the Panthers would charge us for rent (I know that South Florida plays at Raymond James Stadium & Pitt Panthers play at Heinz Field). I think this school needs to add football to prevent being 'left behind' (forever be a 2nd level D-I school), but I'm not sure if the school will have the gust to add a program which would cost millions of dollars to start . .

two years ago we were tenth in the country for student atendance if you were at midnight madness you would know, plus 4500 people showed up according to the observer, not bad for a practice.

the basics of this whole thing have been discussed at nauseum but here are the key points for which you asked:

we were close to attempting football but blame 9-11 for hardships raising starting costs

support for a basketball team is irrelevant to football, look at USF and ECU.

we already have a great football location, Belk track on campus, it would just need expansion. Ericsson is $250,000 to rent per day. ouch!

football requires alot of risk and there are alot of people comfortable where they are that aren't ready to stick their necks out for football

we would easily have D1 football if not for Title IX. If we spend 5 million to start football, you gotta cough up 5 more million into womens sports.
