One things for sure, they can count on at least one win against State.

I remember watching the game and seeing Barrington Edwards (I believe) run into the end zone and then I turned the channel real fast, came back to watch the game about 15 minutes later and the score was back to what it was before the TD. What happened? and I saw that Rutgers guy rush for over 200 yards. They went 7-5 last year but it was in a really bad Big East. I think they are suppose to be a little better this year though.

IMO, Bunting loses games in the offseason more than anything. Recruiting is half the battle.

I dont know if you can completely blame Dailey on that last INT. B. Edwards (or whoever it was on that play) didnt seem to finish out his route. He sorta just stopped on the play.

I fucking get my hopes up every year and then some gay shit like this happens. Rutgers?

Edit: And I KNOW its not the Rutgers of old, and that they made a bowl last year and yadda yadda yadda. I just reminisce of the late 90's when we knew which games we would just pound the opponent. Marginal bowl teams like this were gimmes.

    [Pointless Rant]
I know that doesnt change the fact that Mack Brown is no longer and will never be the coach in Chapel Hill. It also doesnt change the fact that Mack never won the BIG game, and ol Jonny boy did/can/will. But im sick of losing close games like this. [/Worthless Rant]

Edwards did not get in, the replay brought it back and they got stuffed on 4th down, ball ripped out and returned upfield for about 20 yds. I think the fumble call was bullshit but it stood up under review, which was also bullshit. Never the less, Rutgers has a very young offensive line, according to the announcers but that did not affect them at all. They were the dominant force throughout the entire game. The Rutgers staff called an excellent game and their entire team executed it to near perfection. Our defense was sad, especially on several third and longs when Rutgers found wide open receivers downfield. Those, along with the dump truck sized running lanes in the center of the UNC defense was hard to stomach. Their QB was making only his third start but he was crisp and flawless most of the time. Quite impressive and well coached if you ask me. That staff is hot and their head coach may be headed for greener pastures. btw......i saw where WF beat Syracuse handily, speaking of solid coaching staffs making the most from the least.

From Andrew Jones, Wilmington Star-News in his blog (written prior to Staurday's game)...

    John Bunting Vs. Carl Torbush
Torbush coached UNC for three seasons (1998-2000) and Bunting is in his sixth year.

    Overall Record
Torbush 17-18 (includes Gator Bowl following Mack Brown’s departure in Dec., 1997); Bunting 24-36

    ACC Record
    Torbush 10-14; Bunting 16-24

    Vs. Ranked Teams
Torbush 0-7 overall, 0-3 at home; Bunting 5-17 and 4-6

    Vs. ACC Ranked Teams
    Torbush 0-7; Bunting 5-10

    Notes
*Bunting’s teams have been responsible for eight of the program’s 11 worst defensive performances, and in the last two seasons, in which the progress has been made, UNC still allowed the most yards ever (669 at Utah) and most points ever (69 at Louisville) in a single game in school history.

*Torbush’s last club won its final three games, including at Pittsburgh. That team went 6-5 and also beat Byron Leftwich and Marshall.

*UNC’s last two wins over Duke have been by a combined five points. The Heels lost to Duke at home in 2003. Torbush was 3-0 against Duke, winning by an average of nearly 33 points per game.

*Key differences is that Bunting’s teams have played one of the 20 toughest schedules in the nation in each of his seasons, three times playing a top-five slate, including the top-ranked schedule in 2004. Three of Bunting’s last four recruiting classes have been ranked in the top-25 nationally. His current group, which includes 16 commitments already, has five 4-star players.

Bunting has actually been a good recruiter. He's landed some 4 star guys before who just didn't work out (Mike Mason), and this latest class was rated in the top 25 nationally.

    kickazzz2000:
No, I disagree. I remember that play pretty clearly and he led Edwards way too much. In fact, it was odd because the defensive back didn't even have to move to make the interception. Dailey threw it right to him like he was colorblind or something. The announcers said that Edwards stopped on the route, but they showed the replay and he didn't.

    Village Idiot:
Seriously man, you're giving way too much credit to Rutgers' coaches and way too much blame to UNC's. The two teams had nearly identical yards per play, with 6.6 vs 6.3 on passes and 5.3 vs 5.3 on runs. They even had the same exact 3rd down conversion percentage. The turnovers were the difference.

Also, Wake did not beat Syracuse handily. As of 1:21 left in the fourth quarter, the score was 13-10, and that's with Syracuse being a much worse team than Rutgers (SU was 1-10 last year). Plus Wake went 4-7 last season and hasn't beaten a ranked opponent in I don't know how long.

    HighPoint49er:
    Good stuff, thanks.
